E 012 is a European B class road in Kazakhstan, connecting the cities of Almaty - Kokpek - Chundzha - Koktal and Khorgas to the border of China.
It connects to E40, E125, E011, E013, China National Highway 312 and G30 Lianyungang–Khorgas Expressway.

The Jingyihuo railway, short for Jinghe–Yining–Khorgas railway, is the first electrified railway in operation in Xinjiang, China. The line is 286 km in length and connects Jinghe, Yining and Khorgos. The Jingyihuo railway branches from the Northern Xinjiang railway at Jinghe in the Junggar Basin, and heads south through the Tian Shan range into the Ili River Valley. Cities and towns along route include Jinghe, Nilka County, Yining County, Yining, Huocheng County, and Khorgos, on the border with Kazakhstan.
The Lianyungang–Khorgas Expressway, commonly referred to as the Lianhuo Expressway, is 4,243-kilometre-long expressway (2,636 mi) in the People's Republic of China that connects the cities of Lianyungang, in the province of Jiangsu, and Khorgas, in the autonomous region of Xinjiang, on the border with Kazakhstan. At Khorgas, there is a border crossing into Kazakhstan. The expressway is the longest contiguous expressway in China with a single numeric designation, stretching across the country from the Yellow Sea on the east coast to the Kazakhstan border in the west. It passes through the provinces of Jiangsu, Anhui, Henan, Shaanxi, Gansu, and Xinjiang.
The Kuytun–Tacheng Expressway, commonly referred to as the Kuita Expressway is an expressway that connects the cities of Kuytun and Tacheng in the Chinese autonomous region of Xinjiang. It is 368 kilometres (229 mi) in length. The expressway is a spur or auxiliary line of the G30 Lianyungang–Khorgas Expressway. In the southeastern end, it connects to the G30 Lianyungang–Khorgas Expressway at Kuytun. In the northwestern end, it terminates at Xinjiang Provincial Highway 221 in Tacheng, close to the Bakhtu border crossing on the China–Kazakhstan border.

The China–Kazakhstan border, or the Sino-Kazakhstan border is the international border between the People's Republic of China and the Republic of Kazakhstan. The border line between the two countries has been largely inherited from the border existing between the Soviet Union and the PRC, and, earlier, between the Russian Empire and the Qing Empire; however, it has been fully demarcated only in the late 20th and early 21st century. According to the international boundary commissions that have carried out the border demarcation, the border is 1,782.75 km (1,107.75 mi) long.
The Jinghe–Alashankou Expressway (Chinese: 精河-阿拉山口高速公路), commonly referred to as the Jing'a Expressway (Chinese: 精阿高速公路) and designated G3018, is an expressway under construction between Jinghe County and Alashankou in Bortala Mongol Autonomous Prefecture, Xinjiang, China. It will serve as a connection between Alashankou, the site of the Alataw Pass, which serves as a major border crossing between China and Kazakhstan, and the G30 Lianyungang–Khorgas Expressway at Jinghe. The expressway will be 68.66 kilometres (42.66 mi) in length. It will connect to the future G3019 Bole–Alashankou Expressway at about the halfway point, near the Bole railway station on the Northern Xinjiang railway. It is expected to open at the end of 2018.
