Evergreen, which includes Evergreen Estates, is a suburban residential neighbourhood in the southwest quadrant of Calgary, Alberta. It is located south of the Fish Creek Provincial Park, and southeast from the Tsuu T'ina first nation reserve.
There are two sections of Evergreen, the older and more established Evergreen Estates, and the newer Evergreen to the south. The two sections have separate community associations and street naming patterns. All streets with Evergreen in their name are members of the Shawnee-Evergreen Community Association along with the neighbouring community Shawnee Slopes, while those with different names are members of the Calgary Evergreen Community Association. The area is represented in the Calgary City Council by the Ward 13 councillor. [1]
The film Radiant City largely takes place in the community of Evergreen.
In the City of Calgary's 2012 municipal census, Evergreen had a population of 20,110 living in 6,961 dwellings, a 3.2% increase from its 2011 population of 19,487. [2] With a land area of 4.6 km2 (1.8 sq mi), it had a population density of
Residents in this community had a median household income of $105,640 in 2000, and there were 3.9% low income residents living in the neighbourhood. [5] As of 2000, 18.2% of the residents were immigrants. All buildings were single-family detached homes and 1.3% of the housing was used for renting. [6]
The Calgary Board of Education opened the Evergreen Elementary School in 2009, which currently accommodates Kindergarten to Grade 5 students residing in Evergreen. Marshall Springs Middle School which currently accommodates Grade 6 to Grade 9 was opened in September 2017. [7] when Marshall Springs was built, it and Evergreen accommodated 4-9 and K-3 respectively, later changing to 5-9 and K-4, and currently is 6-9 and K-5.
Dr Freda Miller School, which currently accommodates K-5, opened for the 2020-2021 school year.
The Calgary Catholic School District operates the elementary school Our Lady of the Evergreens School, which offers Kindergarten to grade 6. [8]
McKenzie Lake is a residential neighbourhood in southeast Calgary, Alberta. The community was in development from the mid-1980s through to present. The area is bordered by Deerfoot Trail on the east, Stoney Trail on the south, Fish Creek Provincial Park on the west, and 130th Ave SE on the north. The community is most known for its private lake and island in the centre of the community. Multimillion-dollar homes can be seen along both the ridge and the lake. The community centre is home to an ice rink. Basketball courts, and tennis courts.
Altadore is a residential neighbourhood in the inner-city portion of the southwest quadrant of Calgary, Alberta. It is bounded by 33rd Ave SW and the neighbourhood of South Calgary in the north, River Park and 14 St SW in the east, the Garrison Woods neighbourhood and Crowchild Trail SW in the west, and 50th Ave SW in the south. Altadore is part of the Marda Loop Communities Association (MLCA) along with Garrison Woods and South Calgary.
Panorama Hills is a suburban residential neighbourhood in the northwest quadrant of Calgary, Alberta. Located at the northern edge of the city, north of Country Hills boulevard.
Bridlewood is a suburban residential neighbourhood in the southwest quadrant of Calgary, Alberta. It is located at the southwestern edge of the city, north of Stoney Trail and south of the community of Evergreen. To the east it borders the Bridlewood Creek Wetland, a wetland created by the City of Calgary as a stormwater retention pond. The Spruce Meadows equestrian facility is located immediately south.
Sundance is a residential neighbourhood in the southeast quadrant of Calgary, Alberta. It is located east of Macleod Trail, is bounded to the north and east by Midnapore and Fish Creek Provincial Park and to the south by Stoney Trail. The 33-acre (130,000 m2) man-made Sundance Lake was constructed in the middle of the community, and residents have easy access to the public beach of Sikome Lake.
Tuxedo Park is a residential neighbourhood in the northeast and northwest quadrants of Calgary, Alberta.
