Glamorgan is a residential neighbourhood in the southwest quadrant of Calgary, Alberta. It is bounded by Richmond Road to the north, by 37 Street W to the east, Glenmore Trail to the south and Sarcee Trail to the west.

Glamorgan was established in 1958. It is represented in the Calgary City Council by the Ward 6 councillor. [1] Provincially, the community is part of the electoral district of Calgary-Elbow, represented by MLA Doug Schweitzer [3] since the 2019 Alberta general election. Federally, it is part of the Calgary Signal Hill district, represented by MP Ron Liepert since the 2015 Canadian federal election.

Demographics

In the City of Calgary's 2012 municipal census, Glamorgan had a population of 6,376 living in 2,988 dwellings, a 2.1% increase from its 2011 population of 6,242. [4] With a land area of 2 km2 (0.77 sq mi), it had a population density of

Residents in this community had a median household income of $51,192 in 2000, and there were 55.9% low income residents living in the neighbourhood. [6] As of 2000, 15.9% of the residents were immigrants. A proportion of 30.8% of the buildings were condominiums or apartments, and 37.1% of the housing was used for renting. [2]

Education

The community is served by Glamorgan Elementary public school and St. Andrew Elementary School (Catholic).

South Calgary is a residential neighbourhood in the southwest quadrant of Calgary, Alberta. It is located between 14th St west and Crowchild Trail. The community has an area redevelopment plan in place.

Richmond is a residential neighbourhood in the southwest quadrant of Calgary, Alberta.

Charleswood is a residential neighbourhood in the northwest quadrant of Calgary, Alberta. It is located east of Crowchild Trail and the University of Calgary. It borders the Nose Hill Park to the north and the Confederation Park to the southeast.

Glendale is a residential neighbourhood in the southwest quadrant of Calgary, Alberta. It is located south of 17th Avenue SW, east of Sarcee Trail and Signal Hill and west of 37 Street SW and Killarney. The Optimist Athletic Park is located in this community.

Sundance is a residential neighbourhood in the southeast quadrant of Calgary, Alberta. It is located east of Macleod Trail, is bounded to the north and east by Midnapore and Fish Creek Provincial Park and to the south by Stoney Trail. The 33-acre (130,000 m2) man-made Sundance Lake was constructed in the middle of the community, and residents have easy access to the public beach of Sikome Lake.

Cedarbrae is a residential neighbourhood in the southwest quadrant of Calgary, Alberta. It is bounded by Southland Drive to the north, 24 Street W to the east, Anderson Road to the south and Tsuut'ina Trail to the west.

Vista Heights is a residential neighbourhood in the northeast quadrant of Calgary, Alberta. It is bounded to the south by the Trans-Canada Highway and to the west by Deerfoot Trail. To the north and east it borders the South Airways Industrial Area.

Strathcona Park is a residential neighbourhood in the southwest quadrant of Calgary, Alberta. It is bounded by Bow Trail to the north, Sarcee Trail to the east, Strathcona Drive and the community of Christie Park to the south and Strathcona Park Blvd to the west. Strathcona Park lies in the center of the neighbourhood.

Douglasdale is a residential neighbourhood in the southeast quadrant of Calgary, Alberta. It is bounded by 114 Avenue S to the north, 130 Avenue S to the south, Deerfoot Trail to the east and the Bow River to the west. The Fish Creek Provincial Park borders the neighbourhood to the west. Douglasglen is located in the northern area, north of Deerfoot Trail.

Thorncliffe is a residential neighbourhood in the northwest quadrant of Calgary, Alberta. It is bounded by 64 Avenue to the north, Deerfoot Trail to the east, McKnight Boulevard to the south and 14 Street West and Nose Hill Park to the west.

Dover is a residential neighbourhood in the southeast quadrant of Calgary, Alberta. It is bounded by 26 Avenue SE to the north, Peigan Trail to the south, 24 Street SE and Deerfoot Trail to the west and 36 Street SE to the east. The Inglewood golf course, developed in the Bow River valley, borders the community to the west.
