Somerset is a residential neighbourhood in the southwest quadrant of Calgary, Alberta, Canada. The community of Bridlewood lies directly to the west, meanwhile the community of Shawnessy lies both to the north and east of the community. Stoney Trail lies south of the community with the community of Silverado sitting south and the Spruce Meadows equestrian facility sitting southwest of Somerset.

Community Boundaries

The community of Somerset is located in Calgary's southwest quadrant. The community is bounded by the CTrain train-track (LRT r.o.w.) to the east, James Mckevitt Road to the west, Stoney Trail to the south, and 162 Avenue SW to the north. Somerset–Bridlewood CTrain Station lies directly on the border of the communities of Somerset and Shawnessy and acts as a geographic landmark marking the border between the city's southeast and southwest quadrants. Demographics

In the City of Calgary's 2016 municipal census, Somerset had a population of 8,596 living in 3,153 dwellings. [3] With a land area of 2.3 km2 (0.89 sq mi), it had a population density of

Residents in this community had a median household income of $88,150 in 2000, and there were 6.6% low income residents living in the neighbourhood. [7] As of 2000, 23.1% of the residents were immigrants. A proportion of 10.8% of the buildings were condominiums or apartments, and 4.8% of the housing was used for renting. [2]

Education

The community is served by the Somerset School (K-4) public school, and Samuel W. Shaw School (5–9). Both of these schools are run by the Calgary Board of Education. Bishop O'Byrne High School, which is run by the Calgary Catholic School District, is also readily accessible to Somerset residents.

Transit

Somerset–Bridlewood CTrain station services Somerset with it being directly on the community border of the communities of Somerset and Shawnessy. The bus route 14 - a major mainliner route - travels through Somerset with it going between the communities of Bridlewood and Seton. Alongside this the 52 travels into Somerset, with it going passed the Somerset-Bridlewood station into Somerset before turning around servicing Somerset–Bridlewood, Shawnessy and Fish Creek–Lacombe Stations. The Shawnessy CTrain station also is located geographically close to Somerset and acts as a viable alternative for some residents of Somerset.

Somerset–Bridlewood Station is a CTrain light rail station in the Calgary, Alberta community of Shawnessy. It is the current southern terminus of the Red Line. The station is one of two that opened on June 28, 2004 as part of the second phase of the South LRT Extension. Willow Park is a residential neighbourhood in the southeast quadrant of Calgary, Alberta. It is bounded to the west by Macleod Trail, to the south by Anderson Road, to the north by Southland Drive and to the east by the community of Maple Ridge. The Willow Park golf course bisects the neighbourhood from west to east, while Fairmont Drive crosses from south to north. Southcentre Mall and Willow Park shopping village are located in the southwest corner of the neighbourhood.

Bridlewood is a suburban residential neighbourhood in the southwest quadrant of Calgary, Alberta. It is located at the southwestern edge of the city, north of Stoney Trail and south of the community of Evergreen. The Saddle Ridge Industrial Area and Calgary International Airport are located west of the neighbourhood.

Auburn Bay is a suburban residential neighbourhood in the southeast quadrant of Calgary, Alberta. It is located at the southeastern edge of the city, and is bounded by Seton Boulevard to the south, Deerfoot Trail to the west, 52 Street E to the east and Stoney Trail to the north. It was established in 2005.
