The Republic of South Africa is a unitary parliamentary democratic republic. The President of South Africa serves both as head of state and as head of government. The President is elected by the National Assembly and must retain the confidence of the Assembly in order to remain in office. South Africans also elect provincial legislatures which govern each of the country's nine provinces.

The current constitution,the country's fifth,was drawn up by the Parliament elected in 1994 in the South African general election,1994. It was promulgated by President Nelson Mandela on 18 December 1996 and came into effect on 4 February 1997,replacing the Interim Constitution of 1993. The first constitution was enacted by the South Africa Act 1909,the longest-lasting to date. Since 1961,the constitutions have promulgated a republican form of government.

Petrus Johannes "Pieter" Groenewald is a South African politician who is currently serving as Minister of Correctional Services since July 2024. He has served as the Leader of the Freedom Front Plus since his election in November 2016. He started his political career by being elected Mayor of Stilfontein in 1988. He relinquished the position in 1989 due to his election to the House of Assembly. Groenewald co-founded the Freedom Front in 1994,and served as a Member of the National Assembly until his election to the North West Provincial Legislature in 1999. He returned to the National Assembly in 2001.

Tamarin "Tammy" Breedt is a South African politician who is the national youth leader of the Freedom Front Plus as well as a member of the National Council of Provinces. She was a Member of the Free State Provincial Legislature from December 2017 until May 2019 and a Member of the National Assembly of South Africa from May 2019 until May 2024. Breedt was married to fellow FF Plus MP Wouter Wessels.
Wouter Wynand Wessels is a South African politician and a Member of the National Assembly of South Africa for the Freedom Front Plus. He is also the chairperson of Parliament's Standing Committee on the Auditor General. He took office as an MP on 1 December 2017 and succeeded the former party leader Pieter Mulder,who resigned from Parliament a day earlier.
Siviwe Gwarube is a South African politician who is currently serving as Minister of Basic Education in the Government of National Unity (GNU) since July 2024. A member of the Democratic Alliance (DA),she was the Chief Whip of the Official Opposition between August 2022 and June 2024. She joined the National Assembly of South Africa in the May 2019 general election.
Itumeleng Ntsube is a South African politician serving as a permanent delegate to the National Council of Provinces from the Free State. He was sworn in as a Member of Parliament at the age of 20 in May 2019 and consequently became the youngest parliamentarian in South African history. Ntsube is a member of the African National Congress (ANC) and the president of Congress of South African Students (Cosas).

She was a Member of Parliament in the National Assembly from 2019 until 2024. Prior to her election to parliament,she served as a councillor of the George Local Municipality. Arries is a member of the Economic Freedom Fighters.
Bertha Peace Mabe is a South African politician serving as a Member of the National Assembly of South Africa since February 2017,as well as the Deputy Minister of Sport,Arts and Culture since 3 July 2024. She previously served in the National Assembly from May 2014 until August 2016. She served as a permanent delegate to the National Council of Provinces from Gauteng between May 2009 and April 2014. Mabe is a member of the African National Congress and the party's unsuccessful 2016 Mogale City mayoral candidate.
Sibongiseni Ngcobo is a South African politician who served as a Member of Parliament (MP) in the National Assembly from May 2019 until May 2024. A member of the Democratic Alliance,he was the youngest Member of the National Assembly at the time of his election to Parliament. Ngcobo served as a DA councillor in the Richmond Local Municipality from 2016 to 2019.
Makosini Mishack Chabangu was a South African politician from the Free State. He is a member of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF). Chabangu was a Member of the National Assembly of South Africa from 2019 until his resignation in February 2023.

Isaac Mbulelo Sileku is a South African politician who has been the Western Cape's Provincial Minister of Mobility since 2024. A member of the Democratic Alliance,he has been a Member of the Western Cape Provincial Parliament since 2022. Sileku previously served as the Deputy Executive Mayor of the Theewaterskloof Local Municipality from 2016 until 2019 and as a Permanent Delegate to the National Council of Provinces from the Western Cape from 2019 to 2022.
Farhat Essack is a South African politician who has been a Democratic Alliance (DA) Member of the National Assembly of South Africa since April 2022. Esaack had previously served as a Thaba Chweu Local Municipality councillor from 1996 to 2014 and as a Permanent Delegate to the National Council of Provinces from Mpumalanga from 2014 to 2019.
