Hubballi Junction, officially Shree Siddharoodha Swamiji Hubballi Junction, or simply Hubli Junction (Station code: UBL), is a railway junction station under Hubballi railway division of South Western Railway zone (SWR) of Indian Railways situated in Hubli, Karnataka, India. The platform number 1 of Hubli Junction has a length of 1,507 metres, making it the longest railway platform in the world as of March 2023^[update].^[1]

SSS Hubballi Junction Railway Station has three entrances to get into station. One is the main entrance, the other in front of Central Railway Hospital of Gadag road, and the third one few metres ahead of main entrance i.e near yard. The station has an interesting platform bifurcation. It has total 8 platforms, five of them are alike other stations i.e one beside the other, and the other three in the next entry. The longest platform is divided into two parts, it has platform no 1 and 8 on same platform.

Description

Hubli Junction is center place for transportation of public and commercial in Karnataka by connecting northwest to Mumbai (460 kilometres (290 mi)), west to Goa (160 kilometres (99 mi)), South to Bengaluru (410 kilometres (250 mi)) and east to Hyderabad (450 kilometres (280 mi)) with heavy mass transportation.

It is the busiest railway station in Karnataka after Bengaluru City. The Hubli division situated in Hubli city connects Bengaluru, Mysuru, Mangaluru, Hyderabad, Mumbai, New Delhi, Chennai, Thiruvananthapuram, Goa and more.^{[ citation needed ]}

Commercial goods such as manganese are the main source of income, with public transport being secondary. Currently, Hubli Junction is undergoing remodeling work on platform number 1.

The Hubballi Junction (under Hubballi Division) has Goods Shed, Diesel Loco Shed, Carriage Repair Workshop, Train Yard, and many more of Railways. The station was opened in the late 19th century i.e 1886-87 by the British Company; currently is one of the oldest railway stations in the state. It was an important station for both passengers as well as goods from the old era itself. It has major importance in the South Western Railway jurisdiction. It has connection to almost every part of India, Bengaluru, Chennai, Trivandrum, Mumbai, Pune, Ahmedabad, Udaipur, New Delhi, Varanasi, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Vishakhapatnam, Madgaon-Vasco-Goa and many more. The station is the second busiest in the zone after Bengaluru.

Lines

The Madras and Southern Mahratta Railway opened the 130.02 kilometres (80.79 mi) Hubli–Harihar rail line on 18 October 1886. And Hubli–Londa, Hospet–Hubli and Chikjajur–Hubli (part of 469 kilometres (291 mi) Bangalore–Hubli) rail lines were converted during 1995.^[2]

Buses, cars and trains are the means of transport for moving across distant places in Karnataka. For transportation within the city or town limits; motorbikes, cars, autorickshaws and buses are used. With the advent of low-cost airlines, many people are choosing to travel via air as well.

The 12779 / 12780 Goa Express is a daily superfast train run by Indian Railways connecting Vasco da Gama and Hazrat Nizamuddin in New Delhi. It is one of the high priority superfast trains of Indian Railways and additionally, a very important train for Hubli division of South Western Railway.

Sabarmati Junction railway station is a junction station of the Indian Western Railway in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. The station is six kilometres (3.7 mi) from the main Ahmedabad Junction railway station on the Ahmedabad–Delhi main line, at Dharamnagar near the Sabarmati Ashram. Sabarmati Junction has 2 tracks, the Mehsana line, and the Botad line, in addition to the main broad-gauge line for trains departing from Ahmedabad. The Bangalore–Arsikere–Hubli line is a major railway line in the Indian state of Karnataka connecting state capital Bangalore with city of Hubballi in north-central Karnataka. It traverses across Karnataka and links several cities of Karnataka, including Tumakuru, Kadur, Davanagere, Haveri and Hubballi. Currently, 29 pairs of trains operate in this route, out of which 8 are daily services. 17317 / 17318 Hubballi–Dadar Terminus Express is an express train belonging to Indian Railways that links Mumbai with Hubballi in Karnataka. It runs between Dadar Terminus and Hubballi daily and is operated by South Western Railways. This train runs on the LTT Mumbai→Thane→Panvel→Pune→Sangli →Miraj→Belgaum→Londa→Hubli route. Recently there is demand to provide halt at Kirloskarvadi which is a large industrial township between Sangli and Karad stations. The halt is likely to be approved by the Rail Board very soon.

The 16531 / 16532 Ajmer–KSR Bengaluru Garib Nawaz Express is an Express train belonging to South Western Railway zone that runs between Ajmer Junction and Bangalore City in India.

The Hubballi–Secunderabad Express is an Express train belonging to South Western Railway zone that runs between Hubli Junction and Secunderabad Junction in India. It is currently being operated with 17320/17319 train numbers on a daily basis.

Gadag Junction railway station is a NSG-4 Category railway station under South Western Railway in Gadag district, Karnataka. It serves Gadag-Betageri. The station consists of 3 platforms. The station lies on Guntakal–Vasco da Gama section HDN-7A | and as well as it connects Gadag–Hotgi railway line.The Gadag–Hotgi railway line was converted from metre gauge to broad gauge in December 2008. Amenities at Gadag railway station include: Escalators at PF-1 & PF2, Elevators at PF-1 & PF2, Coach Positioning display, computerized reservation office, waiting room, retiring room, free Wi-Fi facility, vegetarian and non-vegetarian refreshments, and book stall.
