Kalvakuntla Chandrashekar Rao (born 17 February 1954)[ citation needed ] better known and abbreviated as K.C.R., [1] [2] [3] is an Indian politician and the first Chief Minister of Telangana, a new state formed by the division of Andhra Pradesh in 2014. He is the leader and Founder of the Telangana Rashtra Samithi, a regional party in India. [4] He is a Member of the Legislative Assembly (Telangana) from the Gajwel constituency of Siddipet District in Telangana. Previously, he served as the Member of the Legislative Assembly (Andhra Pradesh) from Siddipet and also as the Member of Parliament from Mahbubnagar, Karimnagar and Medak. He took oath as the first Chief Minister of the new state of Telangana on 2 June 2014. [5] He went for early elections in 2018, when his cabinet recommended to dissolve the legislative lower house, six months before the completion of his term.
Andhra Pradesh is one of the 29 states of India. Situated in the south-east of the country, it is the seventh-largest state in India, covering an area of 162,970 km2 (62,920 sq mi). As per the 2011 census, it is the tenth most populous state, with 49,386,799 inhabitants. The largest city in Andhra Pradesh is Visakhapatnam. Telugu, one of the classical languages of India, is the major and official language of Andhra Pradesh.
Telangana Rashtra Samithi is an Indian regional political party based in Telangana. Founded on 27 April 2001 by K. Chandrashekar Rao, with a single point agenda of creating a separate Telangana state with Hyderabad as its capital. It has been instrumental in carrying forth a sustained agitation for the granting of statehood to Telangana.
Rao was born to Kalvakuntla Raghava Rao and Venkatamma at Chintalamadaka village of Siddipet Mandal in Medak District on 17 February 1954. [6] He attained a MA degree in Literature from Osmania University, Hyderabad. [7]

Osmania University is a public state university located in University town, Hyderabad, India, and founded in 1918 with the help of chief Architect of Mahbub Ali Khan - Nawab Sarwar Jung. It was established by and named after the seventh and last Nizam of Hyderabad, Mir Osman Ali Khan. It is the third oldest university in southern India, and the first to be established in the erstwhile princely State of Hyderabad. It is the first Indian university to have Urdu as a medium of instruction. In 2012, the university was placed sixth among the Nation's Premier Universities in Humanities, Sciences and Commerce stream, which secured the University with Potential for Excellence status.
Hyderabad is the capital of the Indian state of Telangana and de jure capital of Andhra Pradesh. Occupying 650 square kilometres (250 sq mi) along the banks of the Musi River, Hyderabad City has a population of about 6.9 million and about 9.7 million in Hyderabad Metropolitan Region, making it the fourth most populous city and sixth most populous urban agglomeration in India. At an average altitude of 542 metres (1,778 ft), much of Hyderabad is situated on hilly terrain around artificial lakes, including Hussain Sagar—predating the city's founding—north of the city centre.
KCR started his career with the youth Congress party in Medak district. [8] Later he joined Telugu Desam Party led by NT.Rama Rao.
Telugu Desam Party, abbreviated as TDP, is a regional political party active in the southern states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. The party was founded by N.T. Ramarao on 29 March 1982. Since 1995, the party is headed by N. Chandrababu Naidu, the incumbent Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh. The party's headquarters is located at NTR Bhavan in Hyderabad.
KCR joined the TDP in 1983 and contested against A.Madan Mohan and lost that election. He won four consecutive Assembly elections from Siddipet 1985 and 1999. From 1987–1988, he worked as Minister of Drought & Relief in N. T. Rama Rao's cabinet. In 1990, he was appointed as TDP convener for Medak, Nizamabad, and Adilabad districts. In 1996, he worked as Transport minister in Chandrababu Naidu's cabinet. He also served as the deputy speaker of the Andhra Pradesh Assembly from 2000–2001. [9]
Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao, popularly known as NTR, was an Indian actor, producer, director, editor and politician who served as Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh for seven years over three terms. He is widely regarded as one of the best actors of Indian cinema. NTR received three National Film Awards for co-producing Thodu Dongalu (1954) and Seetharama Kalyanam (1960) under National Art Theater, Madras, and for directing Varakatnam (1970). NTR has received the erstwhile Rashtrapati Awards for his performance(s) in the films Raju Peda (1954) and Lava Kusa (1963). He garnered the Nandi Award for Best Actor for Kodalu Diddina Kapuram in 1970, and the Inaugural Filmfare Award for Best Actor – Telugu in 1972 for Badi Panthulu.
On 27 April 2001, Rao resigned as Deputy Speaker, TDP Party as well. [10] He stood for the people of the Telangana region were being discriminated and believed that separate state is the only solution. [11] In April 2001, he formed the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) Party at Jala Drushyam, Hyderabad to achieve Telangana statehood. [10] In the elections of 2004, Rao won the Siddipet state assembly constituency and also the Karimnagar Lok Sabha constituency, both as a TRS candidate. The TRS fought the 2004 general elections in alliance with the Indian National Congress with a Promise of Congress Party to give Telangana State and Rao was one of the five TRS candidates who was returned as MPs. TRS was part of the United Progressive Alliance coalition government, led by Congress.He went on to become a Union Cabinet minister of Labour and Employment in the United Progressive Alliance government at the Centre with his party colleague Aelay Narendra who became minister of Rural Development and Jannu Jakaraiah as Chairman for National Minimum Wages Advisory Board. The party later withdrew from the coalition, saying that the Alliance was not minded to support a separate Telangana state. [13] . He has resigned as MP in 2006 on a challange of Congress and Won with a Huge Majority of morethan 200,000 votes. Again he resigned as MP in agitation of Telangana movement and won with a minor Majority. In 2009, Rao fought and won the Mahbubnagar Lok Sabha elections. The TRS party fought the general elections as part of the opposition coalition led by TDP. In 2014, KCR was elected as MLA from Gajwel Assembly Constituency of Medak Dist of Telangana State with a majority of 19,218 and as MP from Medak (Lok Sabha constituency) with a majority of 397029 on 16 May 2014.
United Progressive Alliance (UPA) is a coalition of centre-left political parties in India formed after the 2004 general election. The largest member party of the UPA is the INC, whose Former National President Sonia Gandhi is chairperson of the UPA. It formed a government with support from some other left-aligned parties in 2004.
Ale Narendra was an Indian politician who was a member of the 13th and 14th Lok Sabha of India. He represented the Medak Lok Sabha in 1999 and Medak constituency in 2004. He was 3 time MLA from Himayatnagar Constituency in 1983, 1988, 1992. He was one of the biggest proponents for Telangana statehood. Gajwel Assembly constituency is a constituency of Telangana Legislative Assembly, India. It is part of Medak Lok Sabha constituency. It is one of 10 constituencies in erstwhile Medak district and is located around 50 km from state capital Hyderabad.
In Telangana, the TRS, which led the campaign for a separate State for more than a decade, emerged victorious by winning 11 of the 17 Lok Sabha seats and 63 of the 119 Assembly seats, and emerged as the party with the largest vote share. [14]
KCR was sworn in as the first chief minister of the Telangana state at 12.57 pm on 2 June 2014. Rao, a staunch believer in astrology, numerology and Vaastu, is reported to have fixed this time for his inauguration as per the advice of priests to suit his lucky number ‘six’. His welfare programs are aimed at reviving the rural economy and are focused on the development of each community. An intensive household survey, Samagra Kutumba Survey (SKS) was done in a single day on 19 August 2014 across the state to arrive at citizen information for rolling out welfare programs. The data collected pertaining to 94 parameters, covered one crore four lakh households in the State. [19]
He launched the ambitious irrigation project, Kaleshwaram with a capital outlay of ₹85,000 crores to irrigate one crore acres and phase 1 to be launched in June 2018 and completed by early 2019.
He started his welfare program by loan waiver scheme of ₹17,000 crores, owed by 38 lakh farmers in the state. He started Mission Kakatiya for restoration and rejuvenation of 46,000 lakes and tanks. [20] The 24-hour uninterrupted and quality power was given to farmers for free, from earlier policy of 9 hours free power to farmers. A scheme to increase greenery, Haritha Haram was launched in 2014.
A farmers investment support scheme, Rythu Bhandu, with ₹4000 per acre per crop, for two seasons in a year, is launching on 20 April 2018. [21]
The agriculture godowns in the state in 2014 were at 4 MTC, the newly scientifically built godowns increased to 22 MTC by 2015, the highest in India. [22]
The 44 state agriculture markets were connected to national electronic agriculture market platform, e-NAM.
As promised in the manifesto, 21 new districts were created to the existing 10 districts, a total of 31 districts on Dasara, 21 October 2016. They were created to ease administration, access to the government closer to the people. [23]
Telangana State has the highest number of residential schools in India – 875, for all communities, including 577 residential schools launched in three years.
A land record purification exercise, which was earlier taken up in 1931 by the Nizam, to update the land records across the state was started in September 2017 and was completed in three months. A new pattadhar passbook, with highly secure, tamper-proof, with 22 features will be launched in April 2018. An online up to date land records database will be available on Dharani website of the government. The MRO was given the power to carry out registration. The whole exercise will simplify and reduce land disputes significantly.
For shepherds, a sheep distribution program was started in June 2017 with a budget of ₹12,000 crores to increase their financial position, Telangana Sheep Distribution scheme. [24]
For fisherman community, the State provided 51 crore fish seed to increase the fishing industry significantly. After its success, the 82 crore fish seeds will be provided in 2018-19. [25]
For milkman community, the government distributed a buffalo each to around two lakh dairy farmers at a subsidised rate of 50 percent. [26]
A 2BHK house for the poor, Double Bedroom Housing scheme was launched in 2015 with a capital outlay of ₹20,000 crores for building houses for 2.72 lakh beneficiaries.
After the formation of the government, restoration of 24-hour uninterrupted power supply to industries was taken as a top priority and was achieved by 2015. A new widely acclaimed, industrial license clearance named TS-iPASS was launched for fast-track clearances. In 2017, on Ease of Doing Business Index in India, Telangana, with a score of 60.48%, stood first, while Haryana and West Bengal scored 53.49% and 43.28%.
India's largest incubator for startups, T-Hub was started in November 2015.
He started Amma ODI & KCR Kit scheme, a highly successful program for pregnant, lactating woman and Child support health kit in June 2017. A nutritional program for mal-nourished, Aarogya Lakshmi scheme for woman and child. A scheme to distribute a saree to each woman over 18 years was launched in September 2017 with a budget of ₹225 crores. The Sarees were distributed during the festival of Bathukamma called as Bahtukamma Sarees. The saree making was given to beleaguered weavers of Siricilla.
Kalyana Lakshmi - Shaadi Mubarak, a financial incentive of ₹1,00,116 to the poor, to prevent child marriages and to meet marriage expenses was launched in 2015. [27]
The old age, widow pension scheme, Aasara pension was launched in 2014 with increased pensions from ₹200 to ₹1000 per month. And for the physically disabled to ₹1500 per month. [28]
The scheme to provide potable drinking water reaching all people in the state called Mission Bhagiratha was started in 2017 and to be completed by April 2018 with a capital outlay of ₹45,000 crores. [29]
A new health initiative for free health check-ups for everyone, Telangana State Health Profile was announced and is slated to begin in April 2018. [30]
The government is providing up to 3 acres of agriculture land for the landless or partial owners of the land. This scheme is a long-term plan which could take 10 years to fulfill the promise.
The citizen IT interface is top in India for digital transactions for various services of the government are met by Mee Seva. The Electronic Service Delivery (ESD) provides 40 government departments and 600 private related services through the Internet and mobile apps.
Kalvakuntla Chandrashekhar Rao is married to Shobha and has two children. [7] His son, K. T. Rama Rao, is a legislator from [Sircilla Rajanna District], previous Karimnagar district, Telangana and is the cabinet minister for IT, Municipal Administration & Urban Development Departments. His daughter, Kalvakuntla Kavitha, is an M.P. from Nizamabad, Telangana. His nephew, Harish Rao, is MLA for the Siddipet constituency and is now the cabinet minister for Irrigation, Legislative Affairs, and Marketing in the Telangana government. KCR has 9 sisters and 1 elder brother. KCR has good command over languages like Telugu, English, Urdu, and Hindi. He lives with his family at the official chief minister residence, Pragathi Bhavan in Hyderabad City.

The Politics of Andhra Pradesh take place in the context of a bicameral parliamentary system within the Constitutional framework of India. The main parties in the state are the ruling Telugu Desam Party and YSR Congress Party and Janasena party. Other parties that have presence in the state include the Indian National Congress, Jana Sena Party, and Bharatiya Janata party. N. Chandrababu Naidu is the incumbent and the first Chief Minister of the state, post its bifurcation.

Thummala Nageswara Rao or Thummala Nageshwar Rao is Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) politician who has at various times been a minister in the Government of Andhra Pradesh and, later, in the Government of Telangana. He is from the Khammam district.
The Telangana movement refers to a movement for the creation of a new state, Telangana, from the pre-existing state of Andhra Pradesh in India. The new state corresponds to the Telugu-speaking portions of the erstwhile princely state of Hyderabad. After several years of protest and agitation, the central government, under the United Progressive Alliance, decided to bifurcate the existing Andhra Pradesh state and on 7 February 2014, the Union Cabinet unilaterally cleared the bill for the creation of Telangana. Lasting for almost a decade, this has been one of the most longlasting movements in South India. On 18 February 2014, the Lok Sabha passed the bill with a voice vote. Subsequently, the bill was passed by Rajya Sabha two days later, on 20 February. As per the bill, Hyderabad would be the capital of Telangana, while the city would also remain the capital of residual state of Andhra Pradesh for no more than ten years. On 2 June 2014, Telangana was created.
Thaneeru Harish Rao is an Indian politician from the Telangana Rashtra Samithi. He has been a member of the Telangana Legislative Assembly since 2004 representing Siddipet. Between 2014 and 2018, he served as Minister for Irrigation, Marketing & Legislative Affairs of Telangana. With his win at the 2018 assembly election, Rao became the youngest six-time member of any legislative assembly in India.

Rajaiah in the wake of adverse reports about his functioning and failure to take preventive measures in controlling Swine Flu in Telangana.

The Late 2011 Telangana protests refers to a chain of protests as part of Telangana movement between September and December 2011. Sakala Janula samme or All peoples strike is the biggest protest of all. The strike lasted for over six weeks mainly affecting public services and local economy. On a call given by JAC, road blockades on national highways throughout Telangana, rail blockade and the strike of auto rikshaw union were organised on 24 and 25 September causing disruption in transport services. As the All People's strike entered the 30th day on 14 October 2011, Medak's MP Vijayashanti criticised the Congress high command for the delay in making the decision on Telangana and said Congress wants the issue to prolong until 2014. She further said the strike should continue until the formation of Telanana state. After 42 days, on 24 October, government employees unions called off the strike. Kodandaram said that the strike had impacted the overall thinking of the Centre towards creation of separate State and the movement will continue with other protest activities.
The 2012 Telangana protests were a chain of protests which were part of the Telangana movement. The Bharatiya Janata Party, led by state-party president Kishan Reddy, began the 22-day Telangana "Poru Yatra" – a 3,500-kilometre (2,200 mi) journey through 986 villages and 88 assembly constituencies stressing the need for a stance on Telangana stance – on 19 January. Although the tour was successful in reiterating the party's pro-Telangana stance, it did not gain the hoped-for support because of the indifferent attitude of the Telangana Rashtra Samithi and Telangana Joint Action Committee. The TRS' failure to support Reddy’s yatra has resulted in increasing differences between the parties. Two assembly by-elections were held that year, the first in March, and the second in June; the BJP won the first, and the YSR Congress Party the second. Protests resumed in August, when K. Chandrashekar Rao gave the centre a two-week deadline to declare statehood.

Amma Odi and KCR Kit are two welfare programs for mother and child launched by the Government of Telangana. Amma Vodi provides transport facility for pregnant women before and after delivery. The program provides financial and medical assistance to women undergoing delivery of the child at any government hospital in the state. The program aims to reduce the Infant Mortality Rate and Maternal Mortality Rate which currently stands at 28 deaths per 1000 and 65 deaths per 1 Lakh deliveries respectively. The Aadhar-based Mother and Child Tracking System (MCTS) software, is used by healthcare workers to track women at every stage of pregnancy.
Mission Bhagiratha is a project for safe drinking water for every village and city household in Telangana State, with a budget of ₹43,791 crores. The project is a brain child of Telangana Chief Minister, K. Chandrashekar Rao, that aims is to provide piped water to 2.32 crore people in 20 lakh households in urban and 60 lakhs in rural areas of Telangana. The ambitious project will supply clean drinking water to all households in the state through water sourced from River Godavari and River Krishna (32.43TMC). The bulk supply is expected to be completed by May 2018 and intra-village, intra-locality works will be completed by December 2018.
The Telangana Legislative Assembly election was held in Telangana on 7 December 2018 to constitute the second Legislative Assembly since the formation of the state in 2014. The incumbent Telangana Rashtra Samithi, the Indian National Congress, Telangana Jana Samithi, and Telugu Desam Party are considered to be the main contestants in the election. Four opposition parties in the state, the INC, the TJS, the TDP and the CPI have announced the formation of a 'Mahakootami', with an objective of defeating the ruling TRS in the elections. However the Maha Kootami could not win a majority. Ultimately, the TRS won and formed the government once again
