The Kikwete Cabinet was formed by President Jakaya Kikwete after taking the oath of office on 21 December 2005. Kikwete had won a landslide victory in the 2005 presidential election receiving 80.2 percent of the popular vote. [1] His inaugural cabinet had seven women ministers, the highest in the nation's history. [2]

First term

Inaugural Cabinet

Kikwete's first appointment was Johnson Mwanyika as Attorney General. Mwanyika was sworn in on 24 December 2005. Edward Lowassa was then nominated as Prime Minister and was approved overwhelmingly by the National Assembly. He was sworn in on 30 December 2005; the same day President Kikwete inaugurated the 9th Parliament. [3] The inaugural cabinet ministers took oath of office on 6 January 2006.

First reshuffle

President Kikwete made his first cabinet reshuffle in October 2006 which resulted in ten ministers swapping their portfolios. [5] The energy crisis at the time may have necessitated the President's decision. [6]

Changes

  • Attorney General Frederick Werema resigned on 16 December 2014 after he was accused of authorizing the transfer of about $120 million from a controversial escrow account. [11] Werema stated that his advice had been misunderstood. [12] He was replaced by George Masaju.
  • On 22 December 2014, President Kikwete sacked Lands Minister Anna Tibaijuka over a $1 million donation for a school that she received in her personal account. Tibaijuka denied any wrongdoing and insisted that she presented the funds to the school. [11]

Jenista Joakim Mhagama is a Tanzanian politician belonging to the Chama Cha Mapinduzi party. She is a Member of Parliament for Peramiho constituency. In December 2015, she was appointed as a Minister of State in the Prime Minister's Office responsible for Policy, Parliamentary Affairs, Labour, Employment, Youth and the Disabled in President John Magufuli's administration. In January 2022, she was moved to the President’s Office Good Governance and Public Services.

Ridhiwani Jakaya Kikwete is a Tanzanian lawyer and CCM politician. He is currently a Deputy Minister of State Office of the President Public Service Management and Good Governance in Tanzania. Member of Parliament for Chalinze Constituency (CCM).

George Mcheche Masaju was the Attorney General of Tanzania until February 1, 2018. He was appointed by President Jakaya Kikwete on 3 January 2015 and he continued to be the Attorney General in Magufuli's cabinet.

The Attorney General of Tanzania is the legal adviser to the Government of Tanzania and serves concurrently as an ex officio member of the Cabinet and Parliament.

The Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) presidential primaries, 2015 took place in July 2015 to determine CCM's nominee for the Presidency of Tanzania for the 2015 election. The Chama Cha Mapinduzi is the country's dominant ruling party, and the longest reigning ruling party in Africa.
