The Kulik River is a trans-boundary river that flows through the Indian states of West Bengal and Bihar, and Bangladesh. [1]

India

In West Bengal, it goes through North Dinajpur district and has a bird sanctuary around it. [2] In 2017, the river flooded resulting in the death of three people. [3] The river has shrank due illegal dumping of waste and grabbing of land by the river. [4] The government of West Bengal has been trying to revive the river. [4]

Bangladesh

It goes through Thakurgaon District in Bangladesh. [5] [6] The people of Thakurgaon have been demanding the government of Bangladesh build a bridge on Kulik River. [7] The palace of Raja Tonkonath lies by the banks of Kulik River. [8]

Thakurgaon is a district in the north-western side of Bangladesh. It is a part of the Rangpur Division and borders India to the west. It was established as a mahakuma in 1860 consisting of 6 thanas named Thakurgaon sadar, Baliadangi, Pirganj, Ranishankail, Haripur and Ruhia. In 1947, it was re-established as a mahakuma including 3 thanas of Jalpaiguri and a thana of kochbihar of India. In 1981, Atoari was included in the new Panchagarh district and the area was shrunk in just 5 thanas. It was then established as a district on 1 February 1984.

The Punarbhaba is a river of Bangladesh and West Bengal, with a total length of 160 kilometres (99 mi) and a width of 3 to 8 kilometres and a mean depth of 1.96 metres (6.4 ft). It originates from the lowlands of Thakurgaon District of Bangladesh. The river's upper part is a few kilometres west of the Atrai. Dinajpur town of Bangladesh is situated on the east bank of the river. It flows through Gangarampur and Tapan community development blocks of Dakshin Dinajpur district of West Bengal. After flowing to the south, this river meets with the Dhepa River. Ultimately it flows into the Ganges.

Raiganj Wildlife Sanctuary is situated near Raiganj in Uttar Dinajpur district in the Indian state of West Bengal. The bird sanctuary is home to 164 species of birds, and some 90,000 to 100,000 migratory birds visit the sanctuary every year. As per the MEE report, West Bengal''s Jaldapara national park and Raiganj wildlife sanctuary, Himachal Pradesh''s Sainj and Tirthan wildlife sanctuaries as well as the Great Himalayan national park have been declared as top five national parks and wildlife sanctuaries in India.
