The president of Sri Lanka is the head of state and head of government of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka. The Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna is a leftist political party in Sri Lanka. The party was formerly a revolutionary movement and was involved in two armed uprisings against the government of Sri Lanka:once in 1971 (SLFP),and another in 1987–1989 (UNP). The motive for both uprisings was to establish a socialist state. Since then the JVP has entered mainstream democratic politics and has updated its ideology,abandoning some of its original Marxist policies such as the abolition of private property. The 17th Parliament of Sri Lanka is the incoming Parliament of Sri Lanka,with its membership determined by the results of the 2024 parliamentary election held on 14 November 2024. The parliament will meet for the first time on 21 November 2024 at 10:00 SLST.

She is a member of the Parliament of Sri Lanka from Matara Electoral District since November 2024 as a member of the National People's Power. She is also a national executive committee Member of NPP. Saroja made history by becoming the first Tamil Member of Parliament elected from the Matara District and first from Southern Province.
