The Bengali-language film industry based in Dhaka, Bangladesh, has been significant since the early 1970s. It is better known by the popular term Dhallywood, which is a portmanteau of "Dhaka" and "Hollywood". The dominant style of Bangladeshi cinema is melodramatic cinema, which developed from 1947 to 1990 and characterizes most films to this day. Cinema was introduced in Bangladesh in 1898 by the Bradford Bioscope Company, credited to have arranged the first film release in Bangladesh. Between 1913 and 1914, the first production company, Picture House, was opened. A 1928 short silent film titled Sukumari was the first Bengali-produced film in the region. The first full-length film, The Last Kiss, was released in 1931.

Jayashree Kabir is a Bengali film actress. She acted in around 30 films in West Bengal and Bangladesh.

Alamgir Kabir was a Bangladeshi film director and cultural activist. Three of his feature films are featured in the "Top 10 Bangladeshi Films" list by British Film Institute.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Artistic depictions of the Bangladesh Liberation War</span>

There have been numerous works of art created as a result of the Bangladesh Liberation War. In 1971, a concert was organized by members of the British rock band, The Beatles, in support of Bangladesh. The songs recorded for and broadcast on Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra are still considered to be the best of Bangladeshi protest songs.

Alamgir M. A. Kabir was a Bangladeshi police officer and recipient of the Independence Award (1978).

Parineeta is a 1986 Bangladeshi film starring Ilias Kanchan and Anjana Sultana opposite him. Both the actor and the actress garnered Bangladesh National Film Awards. It won National Film Awards in three categories that year and Bachsas Awards in seven categories.

Harano Din is a 1961 East Pakistani Bengali-language film directed by Mustafiz and starring Shabnam and Ghulam Mustafa in the lead roles. Mustafiz's brother Ehtesham produced the movie. Ferdousi Rahman crooned the evergreen hit song "Ami Rupnagarer Rajkanya", composed by Robin Ghosh.

Kamal Ahmed is a Bangladeshi film director and actor. He won the Bangladesh National Film Award for Best Director twice, for the films Lalu Bhulu (1983) and Goriber Bou (1990).

<i>Alpha</i> (2019 film) 2019 film

Alpha is a 2019 Bangladeshi fantasy crime drama film starring Alamgir Kabir, Doyel Mash and ATM Shamsuzzaman in lead roles. It is the third direction of Nasiruddin Yousuff. The film was released on 26 April 2019. It was the submission of Bangladesh to the 92nd Academy Awards for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film, but was not nominated.

<i>Chanda</i> (1962 film) 1962 film

Chanda is a Pakistani Urdu-language film that was released on 3 August 1962 in Pakistan. It stars Rehman and Sultana Zaman in lead roles. It is the first Urdu-language film to be produced in East Pakistan. It was also Shabnam's Urdu-language film debut.
