The Bengali-language film industry based in Dhaka, Bangladesh, has been significant since the early 1970s. It is better known by the popular term Dhallywood, which is a portmanteau of "Dhaka" and "Hollywood". The dominant style of Bangladeshi cinema is melodramatic cinema, which developed from 1947 to 1990 and characterizes most films to this day. Cinema was introduced in Bangladesh in 1898 by the Bradford Bioscope Company, credited to have arranged the first film release in Bangladesh. Between 1913 and 1914, the first production company, Picture House, was opened. A 1928 short silent film titled Sukumari was the first Bengali-produced film in the region. The first full-length film, The Last Kiss, was released in 1931.

Sarah Begum Kabori was a Bangladeshi film actress and politician. Her notable films include Sutorang, Sareng Bou, Abhirbhab, Shat Bhai Champa, Sujon Sokhi and Lalon Fokir. She received the Bangladesh National Film Award for Best Actress for her role in the film Sareng Bou (1978) and Lifetime Achievement Award in 2013.

Ataur Rahman Khan was a Bangladeshi lawyer, politician and writer, and served as Chief Minister of East Pakistan from 1 September 1956 – March 1958, and as the Prime Minister of Bangladesh from 30 March 1984 to 9 July 1986.

Khan Ataur Rahman was a Bangladeshi film actor, director, producer, screenplay writer, music composer, and singer, best known for his role in the film Jibon Theke Neya (1970). He received the Bangladesh National Film Award for Best Screenplay for the films Sujon Sokhi (1975) and Danpite Chhele (1980). He was awarded Ekushey Padak posthumously in 2003 by the Government of Bangladesh.

Ferdausi Rahman also known as Ferdausi Begum is a Bangladeshi playback singer. She is the daughter of folk singer Abbas Uddin. She sang some popular film songs for Pakistani films also in the 1960s especially working with the music composer Robin Ghosh in film Chakori released in 1967. She was awarded Ekushey Padak in 1977 and Independence Day Award in 1995 by the Government of Bangladesh. In addition, she was awarded the lifetime achievement award of the National Film Award in the year 2015.

Nilufar Yasmin was a Bangladeshi singer of Nazrul Sangeet, Rajanikanta Geeti, Dwijendra Geeti and Atul Prasdi genre. She was the fourth of five Yasmin sisters of Bangladesh music. Her siblings are Farida Yasmin, Fauzia Yasmin, Nazma Yasmin, and Sabina Yasmin. She was awarded Ekushey Padak in 2004 by the Government of Bangladesh. She won Bangladesh National Film Award for Best Female Playback Singer for her performance in the film Shuvoda (1986).

Ata-ur-Rahman is a masculine Islamic given name. It is built from the Arabic words Ata, al- and Rahman. The name means "gift of the most merciful", ar-Rahman being one of the names of God in the Qur'an, which give rise to the Muslim theophoric names.

Ataur Rahman is a Bangladeshi stage and television actor. He was awarded Ekushey Padak in 2001 and Independence Award in 2021 by the government of Bangladesh for his contribution to drama.

Khan Asifur Rahman Agoon, known as Agun is a Bangladeshi musician. The son of actor Khan Ataur Rahman and singer Nilufar Yasmin, he is notable for songs like "Baba Bole Chhele Nam Korbe", "Amar Shopno Gulo" and "O Amar Bondhu Go".

Mahbuba Rahman is a Bangladeshi singer. She worked in the film industry during 1950s and 1960s. She was the playback singer of Mukh O Mukhosh (1956), the first Bengali language feature film produced in erstwhile East Pakistan. She was awarded Ekushey Padak in 1998 by the Government of Bangladesh for her contribution to music.

The Bangladesh National Film Award for Best Screenplay is one of the highest film awards in Bangladesh. Since 1975, the awards are given in the category of best screenplay. The first award winner was Khan Ataur Rahman.

The Bangladesh National Film Award for Best Music Composition is the highest award for music composition in Bangladeshi film.

Sujon Sokhi is a 1975 Bangladeshi film directed by Khan Ataur Rahman. The film received critical acclaim, particularly for the performance given by Kabori Sarwar, who won Bachsas Award for Best Actress. Both Sabina Yasmin and Abdul Alim earned Bangladesh National Film Awards for the song "Sob Sokhire Par Korite". The film was popularly remade in Bangladesh in color by director Shah Alam Kiran starring renowned duo Salman Shah and Shabnur in 1994 with the same title. It was also remade in West Bengal (India) in 1995, which was directed by Swapan Saha.

Akhono Onek Raat is a 1997 Bangladeshi film directed by Khan Ataur Rahman and starring Bangladeshi actors Farida Akhtar Babita, Farooque and Shuchorita. Khan Ataur Rahman earned both Best Music and Best Lyricist Award at Bangladeshi National Film Awards with this film.

Abar Tora Manush Ho is a 1973 Bangladeshi film starring Maruf Ahmed, Bobita, Farooque and Raisul Islam Asad. Khan Ataur Rahman earned both Best Film and Best Director Award at Bangladesh National Film Awards.

<i>Kokhono Asheni</i> 1961 Pakistani film

Kokhono Asheni is a 1961 Pakistani Bengali-language art film, written and directed by Zaheer Raihan. It was his debut as a film director. The film was produced by Azizul Haque and Manjurul Haque. It stars Sumita Devi and Khan Ataur Rahman in lead roles with Sanjib Dutt, Shabnam, and Kana in supporting roles.

Ataur Rahman Khan Kaiser was a Bangladesh Awami League politician and member of the National Assembly of Pakistan.

<i>Nawab Sirajuddaula</i> (film) 1967 Pakistani film

Nawab Sirajuddaula is a 1967 Bengali language Pakistani biographical film which details the life of Nawab of Bengal Siraj ud-Daulah (1733–1757) and the Battle of Plassey (1757). Khan Ataur Rahman was the director and screenwriter of the film. It was entered into the 6th Moscow International Film Festival.
