Udom Gabriel Emmanuel is a Nigerian politician who served as governor of Akwa Ibom State from 2015 to 2023. He contested for the office of governor in the April 2015 elections on the platform of Peoples Democratic Party.

Ritman University is located in Ikot Ekpene, Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria. Ritman University, RU is a privately owned and managed university in Nigeria. Ritman University offers various undergraduate courses/programs. The National University Commission (NUC) granted operational license to Ritman University on March 5, 2015, the university began academic activities on November 23, 2015. Ritman University was founded by Emmanuel Ibok Essien, a former Senator who represented the North West Senatorial District of Akwa Ibom State at the 4th Nigerian National Assembly (Senate) between (1999-2003). Senator Essien established the university according to him as “a response to the yearning of renascent Africans for an entrepreneurial university that develops the mind for total productivity, inculcate positive values and offers resources for navigating the world with ease”. Ritman University has an estimated student population of about 1,000 students spread across its three faculties.

Bassey Albert Akpan CON is a Nigerian politician who has been a member of the Senate of Nigeria since June 2015. Previously, he was Commissioner of Finance in Akwa Ibom State from 2007 to 2014. He was first elected to the Senate in March 2015, to represent Akwa Ibom North-East Senatorial District and he won re-election for a second time in the February 2019 senatorial elections. He is a member of the ypp.ng.

The Akwa Ibom Christmas Carols Festival is a large gathering of carol singers in Nigeria. A concert featuring 25,272 carol singers at the Akwa Ibom Stadium, Uyo, Akwa Ibom, Nigeria, with Guinness World Records representatives in attendance, was officially certified as the largest such gathering in the world by Guinness World Records on December 13, 2014, against a former record of 15,674 carol singers which was achieved the previous year by a group called CENTI in Bogotá, Colombia.

Akwa Ibom State operates a multi-party political system. The politics of Akwa Ibom State has been dominated by the People's Democratic Party since 1999 when Victor Attah became the first democratically elected governor of Akwa Ibom State, followed closely by the All Progressives Congress.

Moses Frank Ekpo is a Nigerian politician and the former Deputy Governor of Akwa Ibom State. He was popularly known as "Uncle Mo".

Akwa Ibom State Broadcasting Corporation UHF channel 45, is a state-owned television station in Uyo, Akwa Ibom. Akwa Ibom Broadcasting Corporation was established on 4 April 1988 and is the first and only local television station. AKBC provides both television and radio services. It transmits in 90.528MHZ. AKBC television transmits from Ntak Inyang.

Idongesit Nkanga Secretariat is a government office complex at Ibrahim Babangida (IBB) Avenue, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria. It was named for the former governor, Idongesit Nkanga.

The 2015 Akwa Ibom State gubernatorial election occurred in Nigeria on April 11, 2015, the PDP nominee Udom Gabriel Emmanuel won the election, defeating Umana Umana of the APC.

The 2003 Akwa Ibom State gubernatorial election occurred on April 19, 2003. Incumbent Governor, PDP's Obong Victor Attah won election for a second term, defeating ANPP's Samson Ime Umanna and about three other candidates.

The 1999 Akwa Ibom State gubernatorial election occurred in Nigeria on January 9, 1999. The PDP nominee Obong Victor Attah won the election, defeating the APP candidate.

The 2023 Akwa Ibom State gubernatorial election took place on 18 March 2023, to elect the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, concurrent with elections to the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly as well as twenty-seven other gubernatorial elections and elections to all other state houses of assembly. The election—which was postponed from its original 11 March date — was held three weeks after the presidential election and National Assembly elections. Incumbent PDP Governor Udom Gabriel Emmanuel was term-limited and could not seek re-election to a third term. Former commissioner Umo Eno held the office for the PDP by a 34% margin over first runner-up and YPP nominee — Senator Bassey Albert Akpan.
