Ghōr, also spelled Ghowr or Ghur, is one of the thirty-four provinces of Afghanistan. It is located in the western Hindu Kush in central Afghanistan, towards the northwest. The province contains eleven districts, encompassing hundreds of villages, and approximately 764,472 settled people. Firuzkoh serves as the capital of the province.

Chaghcharān, also called Firozkoh, is a town and district in central Afghanistan, which serves as the capital of Ghor Province. It is located on the southern side of the Hari River, at an altitude of 2,230 m above sea level. Chaghcharan is linked by a 380 kilometres (240 mi) long highway with Herat to the west, and a 450 kilometres (280 mi) long highway with Kabul to the east. The town is served by Chaghcharan Airport.

Charsada District is a district of Ghor Province, Afghanistan. It was created from the northwestern part of Chaghcharan District in 2005. The district center is Qale-Zobayd. The population is 26,600.

Du Layna or Duleena is a district in Ghor Province, Afghanistan. It was created from part of the much larger Chaghcharan District in 2005.

Pasaband District is located in Ghor Province, Afghanistan. The population is 92,900. Located in the southern part of Ghor Province, Pasaband District borders Helmand Province to the south, Daykundi Province to the east, and Farah Province to the southwest. The district center is Shinkot.

Shahrak District is located in the western part of Ghor Province, Afghanistan. The population is 58,200. The district center is Dahan-e Falezak (Shahrak).

Taywara (Teyvareh) district is located in the southern part of Ghor Province in Afghanistan. The population is 88,900 people. The district center is the town of Taywara.

Tulak District is located in the southwestern part of the Ghor Province, Afghanistan. It is a mountainous district like the whole province. The population is 103,612 and the district center is Kwajaha.

Baz Mohammad Ahmadi (Ahmady) is the Deputy Minister of Interior for Counter-Narcotics and the former Governor of Badakhshan, in Afghanistan. He used to be Governor of Ghor Province. Ahmadi is an ethnic Tajik and was a mid-level commander in the Jamiat Islami military alliance under Ahmed Shah Massoud that fought in the civil wars that dominated Afghanistan after the withdrawal of Soviet occupation forces in the early 1990s. After the American-led invasion of 2001, Ahmadi became a high-ranking Afghan defense department functionary, including a posting as Ismail Khan's replacement as military commander of Herat Province.

Shah Abdul Ahad Afzali was the Governor of Ghor from 2005 to 2007, being the third governor after the fall of the Taliban government. He was born in Badakhshan city of Daraim in northern Afghanistan and emigrated with many of his companions to neighbouring country Tajikistan in 1994 until 2003. He was very active in Tajikistan and created many schools and other opportunities for Afghan children and youths.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Ibrahim Malikzada</span> Afghan politician

Mohammad Ibrahim Malikzada was an Afghan politician and military commander. He was the first Governor of Ghor after the defeat of the Taliban in 2001. Malikzada completed elementary education in Ghor province. During Jihad, in 1960s, he continued his Science and Islamic education and he acquired expertise in Medicine from (ICC). He was involved in the health services according to the needs of the region until the Fall of 1981, after Mohammad Taher Malikzada, his elder brother was martyred. From that point on, Mohammad Ibrahim Malikzada took the military responsibility. Although he was not a military officer, he turned into a fully-fledged inclusive militant. The terrible wars of the region fueled by the totalitarians forced him to respond vigorously to the Taliban attacks after 1979. After, Ahmad Shah Massoud, he was the only figure in all the provinces of Southern and Western Afghanistan continuing his resistance. After the fall of Taliban in 2001, he served as the governor of Ghor province. In the first parliamentary elections in Afghanistan, he was elected as a member of a House of People for the Ghor province.

Abdul Qadir Alam was the governor of Ghor Province in Afghanistan from 2004 to 2005. He was the second governor of the province after the fall of the Taliban.

Amīr Krōṛ Sūrī, also known as Jahan Pahlawan, is a legendary character in Afghan national history and is claimed to have become the King of Mandesh in Ghor. Amir Kror Suri is considered to be the first poet of Pashto language. He is not to be confused with Amir Suri, the buddhist king of Ghor in the 9th-10th century.

Mohammad Eqbal Munib was a Hazara politician and the former governor of Ghor. Before that he had been governor of Sar-e Pol.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Sayed Anwar Rahmati</span>

Anwar Rahmati is an ethnic Arab-Hazara politician in Afghanistan. He was a governor of Daykundi province beginning on November 22, 2018. Previously he served as Governor of Sar-e Pol from May 25, 2010 to April 3, 2012 and as Governor of Ghor from August 27, 2012 to June 27, 2015. Between 2004 and 2010 he was Chief of staff to Karim Khalili.

Seema Jowenda is an Afghan politician who is deputy governor of Kabul Province and was previously governor of Ghor province. As of November 2015, she was one of only two women to hold the position of provincial governor in the country. She replaced Sayed Anwar Rahmati in the job.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Marghab District</span> District in Ghor Province, Afghanistan

Marghab District , is a district located in Ghor Province, Afghanistan, created on 26 November 2019. Shorabak area serves as the district center. President Ghani decreed the creation of the district through decree No. 632 from the Presidential Palace. It was the people's demand. The district encompasses 32 villages and around 19,000 people, Marghab District has approximately 40000 inhabitants and is mainly populated by Tajiks.

The October 2020 Afghanistan attacks were multiple attacks launched by insurgents including the Taliban and Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant – Khorasan Province in October 2020. The attacks left at least 243 people dead and 339 injured. 10 perpetrators were also killed in these attacks.

On 17 October 2017, insurgents attacked Gardez, Paktia Province and Ghazni Province in Afghanistan.
