This is a non-definitive list of most expensive non-English-language films, with budgets given in United States dollars. Only films with budgets exceeding US$30 million are listed here.

Contents

Where the source gives the budget in the native currency, conversion is carried out using the exchange rates for the year of release as given by the Internal Revenue Service (since 2017) and The World Factbook (prior to 2017). In the absence of the exact year the closest year is used instead. [1] [2]

Jackie Chan began his film career as an extra child actor in the 1962 film Big and Little Wong Tin Bar. Ten years later, he was a stuntman opposite Bruce Lee in 1972's Fist of Fury and 1973's Enter the Dragon. He then had starring roles in several kung fu films, such as 1973's Little Tiger of Canton and 1976's New Fist of Fury. His first major breakthrough was the 1978 kung fu action comedy film Snake in the Eagle's Shadow, which was shot while he was loaned to Seasonal Film Corporation under a two-picture deal. He then enjoyed huge success with similar kung fu action comedy films such as 1978's Drunken Master and 1980's The Young Master. Jackie Chan began experimenting with elaborate stunt action sequences in The Young Master and especially Dragon Lord (1982).

The company made world news on October 30, 2009, when the Shenzhen Stock Exchange ChiNext Board was halted, after HBMC's stock price reached 122.74 percent above its IPO price, to open at 63.66 yuan per share. Patrick Frater of Variety called it "China’s largest private sector film conglomerate". In 2014, the company was the seventh-largest film distributor in China, with 2.26% of the market.

Laura Weissbecker is an international multilingual French-American actress, comedian, writer and producer. She is the recipient of numerous awards, including the Chinese Huading award for best new actress in 2013 for her role in Jackie Chan's CZ12. She has worked in France, Germany, USA and China, with directors such as Jackie Chan, Cedric Klapisch, Elie Chouraqui, Mark Romanek and Tonie Marshall. Weissbecker was chosen by Jackie Chan for one of the leading roles in the film Chinese Zodiac 12, starring and directed by Jackie Chan. The film was a huge commercial success in Asia, in particular in mainland China where it is listed as amongst the top 5 biggest box-office hits for 2012.

<i>Skiptrace</i> (film) 2016 Chinese film

Skiptrace is a 2016 Hong Kong-Chinese-American buddy cop action comedy film directed by Renny Harlin, produced, starring and based on a story by Jackie Chan. The film co-stars Johnny Knoxville and Fan Bingbing. It was released in China on July 21, 2016 and in the United States on September 2, 2016.

<i>The Legend of Tarzan</i> (film) 2016 film directed by David Yates

The Legend of Tarzan is a 2016 adventure film directed by David Yates. Based on the character Tarzan created by Edgar Rice Burroughs, the film stars Alexander Skarsgård, Samuel L. Jackson, Margot Robbie, Djimon Hounsou, Jim Broadbent, and Christoph Waltz. The story follows John Clayton (Tarzan), who, after moving to London, is convinced by George Washington Williams to return to his former home in the jungles of Africa, to investigate claims of slavery. It is the final film to be produced by Jerry Weintraub before his death in 2015.

<i>Dragon Blade</i> (film) 2015 film

Dragon Blade is a 2015 Chinese historical action film written and directed by Daniel Lee starring Jackie Chan. In the film, Chan plays Huo An, the commander of the Protection Squad of the Western Regions during the Han dynasty. Dragon Blade was released in IMAX 3D on 19 February 2015, the first day of the Chinese New Year holiday period. The film was released in the United States on 4 September 2015 by Lionsgate Premiere. It was met with generally mixed-to-negative reviews by critics, who praised its action scenes, cinematography and performances, but criticized its screenplay, story, editing and special effects.

<i>Monster Hunt</i> 2015 film

Monster Hunt is a 2015 mainland Chinese-Hong Kong 3D fantasy action comedy adventure film directed by Raman Hui. The film was released in China on 16 July 2015 in 3D and IMAX 3D. Upon release, it became a huge commercial success, breaking numerous box office records, including as the highest-grossing film in China, before The Mermaid took the crown in 2016. It opened in North America on January 22, 2016 in 2D and 3D by FilmRise.

<i>Asterix: The Mansions of the Gods</i> 2014 French animated film

Asterix: The Mansions of the Gods, also titled Asterix and Obelix: Mansion of the Gods, is a 2014 French animated adventure family comedy film directed by Louis Clichy with a story written and co-directed by Alexandre Astier.The film features the voices of Roger Carel, Guillaume Briat, Lionnel Astier, Serge Papagalli, and Florence Foresti. The film was Carel's last film before his retirement and later death. It was the first Asterix film animated in 3D.

<i>From Vegas to Macau II</i> 2015 Hong Kong film

From Vegas to Macau II (賭城風雲II) is a 2015 3D Hong Kong-Chinese action comedy film directed and written by Wong Jing and starring Chow Yun-fat, Nick Cheung, Carina Lau, Shawn Yue, Angela Wang and Michelle Hu. The film is the sequel to From Vegas to Macau. The third installment of the series, From Vegas to Macau III was released on February 8, 2016.

Wanda Film Holding Co. is a cinema operator, film production and film distribution company in China, headquartered in the Wanda Plaza in Chaoyang District, Beijing. It is a part of the Dalian Wanda Group. As of 2014 Wang Jianlin is the head of the company. As of January 2018, Wanda Cinemas remained China's largest film distributor. Some locations are named Wanda International Cinemas with Hollywood and Chinese movies as the main offering.

<i>Kung Fu Yoga</i> 2017 film by Stanley Tong

Kung Fu Yoga is a 2017 Chinese action adventure comedy film written and directed by Stanley Tong and produced by and starring Jackie Chan. It is the sequel to The Myth (2005), with Chan reprising his role as an archeologist, Jack. The film's cast includes Chinese actors Aarif Rahman, Lay Zhang, and Miya Muqi, and Indian actors Disha Patani, Sonu Sood, and Amyra Dastur.

Flagship Entertainment Group is a film production company based in Hong Kong and a joint venture between Warner Bros. Discovery and a China Media Capital–led consortium established in 2015 that includes TVB.

<i>Railroad Tigers</i> 2016 Chinese film

Railroad Tigers is a 2016 Chinese action comedy film directed by Ding Sheng and starring Jackie Chan. It was released in China on December 23, 2016. The film is about a railroad worker who leads a team of freedom fighters to oppose the Japanese during the occupation in World War II. The film performed well at the box office.

A box office territory, in context of the film industry, ranges from a single country to a grouping of countries for reporting box office gross ticket sales. This is distinct from dependent territories, though such territories under a country's administrative control may confuse box office revenue and reporting due to data variously including or excluding them.
