Global Investors Summit, officially the Invest Madhya Pradesh Global Investors Summit or GIS is a biennial business summit organized by Government of Madhya Pradesh in Indore, the commercial capital of central India to attract domestic and foreign investment for development of the state. Based on the theme– India's Growth Centre and aimed at bringing together business leaders, investors, corporations, thought leaders, policy and opinion makers; the summit serves as a perfect platform to understand and explore business opportunities in the State of Madhya Pradesh.

In 2019, the summit was held with the title 'Magnificent MP Summit' by then Chief Minister Kamal Nath in Indore. [1]

GIS 2012-2014 Highlights

GIS 2014 was organized from 8–10 October 2014 in Brilliant Convention Centre, Indore and was inaugurated by the prime minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi. [5] Top names in Indian business who participated in the event were Mukesh Ambani, Anil Ambani, Cyrus Mistry, YC Deveshwar and Gautam Adani etc. Six countries including Canada, Australia, and South Africa were partner-nations at the event. Ambassadors from 21 countries attended the summit. GIS 2012 was held in Indore from 28 to 30 October 2012 and many projects and MoUs were signed in the three days of the summit. GIS 2016 Highlights

The Global Investors Summit 2016 was organised on 22 and 23 October at Brilliant Convention Centre, Indore. On 21 October 2016, the Global CEO conclave was held where 150 Ambassadors of partner countries, CEOs of industrial groups and representatives from abroad shared dinner with the Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh and discussed investment opportunities in the state. [6] GIS 2016 was partnered by six countries the United Kingdom, UAE, Singapore, Japan and South Korea. The foundation stone for state's Make in Madhya Pradesh initiative was laid by chief minister at the event. GIS 2016 was inaugurated by Finance Minister of India, Shri Arun Jaitley. Baba Ramdev and Gopichand Hinduja attended the event for the first time. Top names in Indian business who participated in the event were Anil Ambani, Kumar Mangalam Birla. The valedictory session was presided over by Minister for external affairs, Sushma Swaraj. Total number of MOUs signed and total investment figures are yet to be confirmed by the government. [7]

The Indore Metro is a rapid transit system which is under construction for the city of Indore, India. The total system consists of 11 corridors (lines) covering a distance of 124 kilometres (77 mi). This project will cost approximately 12,000 crore (US$1.5 billion). The cost per km will be 182 crores and total cost is 15,000 crores. The metro system will be elevated, underground and on ground. The Indore Metro project has been subject to serious contestation due to the inappropriate shifting of Seismic zone-II to Seismic zone-IV category which has led to increase in budgetary cost for the entire project.

The economy of Indore is notable for its importance in the areas of trading, finance and distribution in Madhya Pradesh. Indore has the largest economy in Madhya Pradesh and is the business and trading capital of the state. Pithampur Industrial Area, near Indore houses more than 1200 industrial units. Pithampur is a part of Indore Metropolitan Region, though its economic contributions are not accounted in Indore District. Located at the crossroads of western and central India, Indore has relatively good connectivity and has been the hub of trade and commerce, not only for the state but also for western India. Cotton textiles are the city's major product, but iron and steel, chemicals, and machinery are also manufactured there. The textile industry is in decline and is being replaced by a variety of new manufacturing industries. Still it is one of the largest textile industries in India. Old-time industries which flourished in Indore were handloom, hand dyeing, manufacture of niwar, oil extraction by ghani, manufacture of bamboo mats, baskets, metal utensils, embossing and engraving of gold and silver ornaments, shellac industry, etc. Ayurvedic and Unani medicines from roots and herbs were manufactured under state patronage. Indore has one of the largest trans-shipment centers for truck transport.

Make in India is an initiative by the Government of India to create and encourage companies to develop, manufacture and assemble products made in India and incentivize dedicated investments into manufacturing. The policy approach was to create a conducive environment for investments, develop a modern and efficient infrastructure, and open up new sectors for foreign capital. The initiative targeted 25 economic sectors for job creation and skill enhancement, and aimed "to transform India into a global design and manufacturing export hub."

The Indian electronics industry saw growth in the early years of the 21st century, encouraged both by government policies and incentives and by international investment.
