History

Mariahu Railway Station was constructed by the British in 1905, during the colonial era. Its establishment was a part of the broader expansion of the railway network in British India to connect important trade and administrative centers. The line passing through Mariahu is the Zafarabad-Janghai Junction route, which was initially part of the Oudh and Rohilkhand Railway.

• Colonial construction (1905): The station and its track were built by the British to connect the region's towns with larger cities. It helped boost trade and communication for the Mariahu region and the surrounding villages.

• Meter gauge to broad gauge conversion: The railway line passing through Mariahu was originally a meter-gauge line. It was later converted to the 5 ft 6 in (1,676 mm) broad gauge, modernizing the rail infrastructure.

• Electrification: The single line track passing through Mariahu was electrified in March 2019, further upgrading the station's capabilities.

• Amrit Bharat Station Scheme: In early 2024, the Mariahu station was included in the Indian Railways' "Amrit Bharat Station Scheme," ^[3] which aims to redevelop and modernize railway stations across India.

• Modernization: As part of the Amrit Station Scheme, the station is set to receive significant upgrades, including modern amenities like waiting lounges, improved ramps for accessibility, and better overall infrastructure.

Key Modernization Projects

Mariahu Railway Station is undergoing a significant modernization project under the Indian Railways' Amrit Bharat Station Scheme. ^[4] The foundation stone for the redevelopment was virtually laid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in February 2024. The project is intended to provide world-class amenities and infrastructure.

Funding An investment of ₹11.74 crore has been allocated specifically for Mariahu Railway Station's makeover.

Planned improvements The modernization projects at Mariahu are expected to include a range of upgrades focused on passenger comfort, safety, and integration with the surrounding city, consistent with the broader Amrit Bharat scheme goals.
