Basti railway station is a main railway station in Basti district, Uttar Pradesh. Its code is BST. It serves Basti city. The station consists of seven platforms. [1]

It is a very important railway station of North Eastern Railway zone. The main line connecting Lucknow with Gorakhpur and places in Bihar and Assam in the east passes through the south of the district. It has various facilities like escalator, elevator, free wifi, automatic ticket vending machines, food stall, parking, toilet, water supply 24 hours, train information display board, waiting hall, etc. The station offer Class A-1 station facilities. This station is a first electrified station of North eastern Railway. This station is very main station between Gorakhpur-barabanki-Aishbag line. There is a daily Intercity express between Gorakhpur and Lucknow. The station is well connected to Delhi, Mumbai, Pataliputra, Lucknow, Ajmer, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Varanasi, Thiruvananthapuram, Chennai, Jammu, Howrah, Jaipur.

Important trains are Vande Bharat, Gorakhdham Express, Vaishali Express, Raptisagar Express, Gorakhpur–Lokmanya Tilak Terminus Superfast Express, Gorakhpur–Anand Vihar Terminal Humsafar Express (via Basti), Satyagrah Express, Garib Rath, Kamakhya–Anand Vihar Weekly Express, Antyodaya Express, Poorbiya express, Godda gomti nagar express, Amrit bharat, and many more. Manwar Sangam Express & GKP–BST–GKP Special train originates and terminates at Basti . The Basti district is served by 6 local railway stations other than Basti railway station, namely, Babhnan(BV), Tinich, Gaur, Govind Nagar, Orwara, & Munderwa, among them Babhnan railway station (BV) is second important and Biggest railway station after Basti in Basti District. In the down direction, the traffic consists of mostly food grains, fertilizers and empty wagons for coal loading in the Jharkhand and West Bengal coal fields. Pt. Deen Dayal Upadhyay Junction is a transit division and the main objective is to maintain mobility of high density traffic. The present capacity of the Grand Chord is being optimally utilized. Traversing through Chota Nagpur Plateau of Jharkhand as well as parts of the fertile Gangetic plains of Bihar, the Grand Chord covers a stretch of 450.7 km (280.1 mi). The Grand Chord is renowned for its remarkable controlling of passenger traffic, despite being burdened with freight traffic.

It operates daily and covers a distance of 513 kilometres (319 mi) from Varanasi City to Lucknow Junction. Krishak Express reaches Lucknow Junction via Gorakhpur with total travel time of 12 Hours 45 Minutes while it completes the return journey to Varanasi City in 13 Hours 25 Minutes.

The 12583 / 12584 Lucknow Jn.–Anand Vihar Terminal AC Double Decker Express is an Indian Railways train running between Lucknow Junction and Anand Vihar Terminal. It is the ninth double decker train in India and is the first such service for the state of Uttar Pradesh. The train operates four days a week on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays from both ends. After Lucknow Mail, Lucknow–New Delhi AC Superfast Express, Lucknow Swarna Shatabdi Express and Gomti Express, it is the fifth dedicated train service between the national capital and the state capital of Uttar Pradesh.
