Media Wales Ltd. is a publishing company based in Cardiff, Wales. As of 2009 it was owned by Reach plc (formerly known as the Trinity Mirror Group). [2] It was previously known as the Western Mail & Echo Ltd.
The Western Mail was founded in 1869 by the 3rd Marquess of Bute as a Conservative newspaper. [3] In 1893, the original building in St. Mary Street was destroyed by fire and a new building was opened also in St Mary Street two years later. [3]
In 1928 the Western Mail Ltd amalgamated with David Duncan & Sons, who published the South Wales Daily News and the South Wales Echo , which was established in 1884. [3] The merged company became Western Mail and Echo Ltd. and because of the merger Evening Express and South Wales Daily News closed. [3] In 1960, the newspapers left St Mary Street and moved to Thomson House, Cardiff. [3]
On 1 October 2007 Western Mail and Echo Ltd changed its name to Media Wales, [4] and in 2008 Media Wales moved from Thomson House in Havelock Street to a newly built office block, named Six Park Street, next to the old building. [5]
The printing plant relocated to Portmanmoor Road, where it printed the Western Mail , South Wales Echo , South Wales Evening Post and the Llanelli Star . It also printed other independently owned titles, including the Pembrokeshire Herald. [6] In November 2016, the parent company Trinity Mirror (Reach plc), announced its plans to close the printing plant and transfer all printing to either its printing plants in Birmingham or Watford. WalesOnline is the Media Wales website for Welsh news. Its editor is Steffan Rhys. [7]
Cardiff Online is Media Wales' portal for news from the country's capital. The different sections include information on local community news, yourCardiff, lifestyle, Parklife (local sport), Cardiff Blues, Cardiff City F.C. and Cardiff Devils. [8]
Pizzaman is Wales' first online drama series, broadcast by WalesOnline. The mini-series was created by former film students Teilo Trimble and James Robson, who took inspiration from Robson's stint as a takeaway driver following graduation.
It featured 15 short films ranging between four and eight minutes, all shot in different locations around Cardiff, which follow student deliveryman Taj. Each episode is named after a district of Cardiff. [9]

Reach plc is a British newspaper, magazine and digital publisher. It is one of the UK's biggest newspaper groups, publishing 240 regional papers in addition to the national Daily Mirror, Sunday Mirror, The Sunday People, Daily Express, Sunday Express, Daily Star, Daily Star Sunday as well as the Scottish Daily Record and Sunday Mail and the magazine OK! Since purchasing Local World, it has gained 83 print publications. Reach plc's headquarters are at the One Canada Square in London. It is listed on the London Stock Exchange.
Philip Bennett was a Welsh rugby union player who played as a fly-half for Llanelli RFC and the Wales national team. He began his career in 1966, and a year later he had taken over from Barry John as Llanelli's first-choice fly-half. He made 414 appearances for the Scarlets over the course of a 15-year career he scored 131 tries, 43 drop goals, 293 pens and 523 convs. He made his Wales debut in 1969, but it was not until John's retirement from rugby in 1972 that Bennett became a regular starter for his country. He led Wales to the Five Nations Championship title, including the Grand Slam in 1978, which culminated with his retirement from Wales duty.
The South Wales Echo is a daily tabloid newspaper published in Cardiff, Wales and distributed throughout the surrounding area. It has a circulation of 6,026.
The Hull Daily Mail is an English regional daily newspaper for Kingston upon Hull, in the East Riding of Yorkshire. The Hull Daily Mail has been circulated in various guises since 1885. A second edition, the East Riding Mail, covers East Yorkshire outside the city of Hull. The paper publishes everyday except Sunday.
The South Wales Evening Post is a tabloid daily newspaper distributed in the South West region of Wales. The paper has three daily editions – Swansea; Neath and Port Talbot; and Carmarthenshire – and is published by Media Wales, part of the Reach plc group. The current editor is Jonathan Roberts. As the name suggests, it had previously been an evening paper, but later became a morning daily.
The Llanelli Star is a Welsh regional newspaper covering the areas of Llanelli and Carmarthen in the county of Carmarthenshire, Wales. It is published on a weekly basis in a tabloid form. The newspaper is published by Trinity Mirror, the same company behind the South Wales Evening Post. In 2012, Local World acquired South West Wales Publications owner Northcliffe Media from Daily Mail and General Trust. Geoffrey Lloyd was the editor from 1965 to his death in 1986.

Jonathan Morgan, is a Welsh Conservative politician, who served as a Conservative Assembly Member (AM) for South Wales Central from 1999 to 2007 and AM for Cardiff North from 2007 to 2011. In the National Assembly elections in 2011 he was beaten by Labour's candidate Julie Morgan, wife of former First Minister Rhodri Morgan. He is currently chair of Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board and Chairman of the Welsh NHS Confederation.
Local World Holdings Ltd. was a large regional newspaper publisher in the UK that published around 100 print titles and more than 70 websites. It was formed in 2012 by David Montgomery, a former chief executive of Trinity Mirror, to buy the Daily Mail and General Trust's Northcliffe Media business, and the Yattendon Group's Iliffe newspaper group.

Henry Lascelles Carr, known as Lascelles Carr, was a British newspaper proprietor and businessman. Born in Yorkshire, Carr relocated to South Wales where he became a journalist. Carr became editor of the Western Mail and later its owner, before buying the London-based News of the World. Carr was also the Chairman of the Cardiff-based Royal Hotel Company and was a city councillor.
Northcliffe Media was a large regional newspaper publisher in the UK and Central and Eastern Europe. In 2012 the company was sold by Daily Mail and General Trust (DMGT) to a newly formed company, Local World, which also bought Iliffe News and Media from the Yattendon Group. In October 2015, Trinity Mirror, later Reach plc, bought Local World.
Heno is a Welsh television magazine and chat show programme. Broadcast live on S4C weeknights at 7:00 pm, it features topical stories and studio guests. Various reporters also assist with subject-specific presenting, both in the studio and on location or through filmed segments. Its afternoon sister programme is called Prynhawn da.
