The Bangladesh Armed Forces award medals and their associated ribbon bars in recognition of various levels of service, personal accomplishments and commemorative events while a regular serviceperson is a member of the Bangladesh Army, Bangladesh Navy and the Bangladesh Air Force. The Bangladesh War of Independence was an armed conflict between West Pakistan, East Pakistan (i.e., between Pakistan and Bangladesh, which were at that time two parts of the same country) and India, as a result of which East Pakistan became the independent country of Bangladesh. Campaign medals

The Chittagong Hill Tracts are a territory in southeastern Bangladesh on the border with India and Myanmar, the only mountainous region in the country. [6] [13]
Uttoron Padak Uttoron Padak Medal BAR.png Uttoron Padak.png Uttoron Padak (Bengali: উত্তরণ পদক) is intended to reward servicemen who took part in the campaign in the Chittagong Hill Tracts. [14] The "Operation Dabanal" (Operation Wildfire) was re-established in the name of "Operation Uttoron" [15] (Operation Upliftment) by which the Bangladesh military [16] want to solve the CHT crisis militarily through imposing military maneuvers superseding the local civil administration. Naf Padak Naf Padak.png Naf Padak Front.png Naf Padak (Bengali: নাফ পদক) is a military medal of Bangladesh. In 2000, Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) between Burmese Security Forces (Nasaka) and the Myanmar Army had a major clash known as the Naf War. Myanmar started building dams on the tributaries of the Naf River, which defines the border between Bangladesh and Myanmar. As a result, the course of the river changed and the land of Bangladesh came under the control of Myanmar. After several letters between BDR and Nasaka, they did not stop their work. According to former Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) Director General Major General (retd) Fazlur Rahman, 600 Myanmar soldiers were killed in the three-day conflict, although it has not been confirmed. There were no casualties among BDR members. To honor the bravery of BDR members, the participating BDR members were awarded Naf Padak. [21] [22]

Later, a medal with a similar design was established in 1996 and 2001. General Zia's widow, Khaleda Zia, led the Bangladesh Nationalist Party to victory in the 1991 general parliamentary election and became the first female prime minister in the country's history. However, the Awami League, led by Sheikh Hasina, one of the surviving daughters of Mujibur Rahman, came to power in the next elections in 1996, but lost again to the Bangladesh Nationalist Party in 2001. The Blood Donor Medal is awarded to all persons of the Bangladesh Army, Bangladesh Navy and Bangladesh Air Force who have donated blood three times.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Indian Independence Medal</span> Award

The Indian Independence Medal was instituted by the Dominion of India and approved by King George VI by way of a Royal Warrant dated 21 July 1948. It was a commemorative medal for service with the Indian armed forces at the time of independence in August 1947. Attached British personnel were eligible.

The Uththama Pooja Pranama Padakkama is the medal presented to the next of kin of all servicepersons of the military and police of Sri Lanka in recognition of a serviceperson's death in the line of duty. It is awarded to the families of personnel confirmed killed in action or missing in action.

The existing Bangladeshi honours system was created after Independence of Bangladesh. The most highest civilian honours are the Independence Award and Ekushey Padak. They are awarded every year. The awards are civilian awards for a broad set of achievements in fields such as Education, Arts, Civil Service, or Social Service and Liberation War. Awards were also bestowed posthumously and they are not given for foreign citizens.

Deaths along the Bangladesh–India border occur many times a year as result of people attempting to illegally cross into the Republic of India from Bangladesh, cross border firing and cattle smuggling. Bangladesh and India share a 4,096 kilometer border. To prevent smuggling and illegal migration from Bangladesh, the Indian Border Security Force exercises its controversial "Shoot-on-sight" policy. Under this policy, the BSF can shoot any person on site with or without cause. A large portion of the victims are cattle traders and farmers with land near the border.

Aziz Ahmed is a retired Bangladeshi four star general who was Chief of Army Staff (CAS) of the Bangladesh Army, from 25 June 2018 to 24 June 2021. He was succeeded by General SM Shafiuddin Ahmed on 24 June 2021.

Anwar Hussain is a retired 3 Star General of the Bangladesh Army. He has served as the Quarter Master General of the Army. He is the former Director General of Border Guards Bangladesh (BGB) and General officer Commanding (GOC) of Army Training and Doctrine Command (ARTDOC). He has been honored as the Colonel Commandant of Regiment of Artillery of Bangladesh Army as he is the highest Ranking and senior longest serving officer of Regiment of Artillery of Bangladesh Army.

Md Mainul Islam is a retired lieutenant general of Bangladesh Army. He is the former Principal Staff Officer of Armed Forces Division and Chief of General Staff (CGS) of Bangladesh Army. He also served as Director General of Border Guards Bangladesh. He is currently the president of the Bangladesh Archery Federation.

The Bangladesh–Myanmar border is the international border between the countries of Bangladesh and Myanmar. The border stretches 271.0 kilometres, from the tripoint with India in the north, to the Bay of Bengal in the south. About 210 km (130 mi) of the border is fenced, with the government of Myanmar announcing in 2017 that it was planning to fence off the rest of the border.

The Order of the Red Star was an award of the People's Socialist Republic of Albania. It was awarded to officers, non-commissioned officers, pupils and students of military schools, soldiers, and reservists of the Albanian People's Army, as well as police officers, the Voluntary Forces of Popular Self-Defense, and armed school youth. It was awarded for good leadership in time of war and for very good achievements in the war against enemies of the people in peacetime.

Major General Shakil Ahmed SPP, BGBM, nswc, afwc, psc is a two-star general of the Bangladesh Army. Currently he is serving as General Officer Commanding of 66th Infantry Division & Area Commander, Rangpur Area. He served as the Director General of Boarder Guards Bangladesh (BGB). Prior to this appointment, he served as Adjutant general of Army Headquarters. Before that he has served as the General Officers Commanding of 19th Infantry Division in ghatail.

Mohammad Anwar Latif Khan is a Bangladesh Army Colonel and the Sector Commander of Border Guards Bangladesh in Rajshahi. He is the former Additional Director General (Operations) at the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) an elite multi-service unit of the Bangladesh Police and oversaw crackdowns on Islamist militants. He has been sanctioned by the United States for his activities in RAB. He had previously commanded RAB-5, RAB-7, and RAB-11.

AKM Nazmul Hasan is a Major General in the Bangladesh Army who is incumbent Director General of Boarder Guards Bangladesh (BGB). Prior to Join here, he served as Director General of Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defence Party. He also served as General officer Commanding (GOC) of 11th Infantry Division & Area Commander, Bogura Area.
