Penn Township is one of thirteen townships in St. Joseph County, in the U.S. state of Indiana. As of the 2000 census, its population was 64,322.
The Condit House is the Official Residence of the President of Indiana State University. Built in 1860 and bequeathed to the university in 1962, it is the oldest building on the campus. The home, an example of Italianate architecture, was the private home of the Right Reverend Blackford Condit and his family from 1862 until 1962. Condit's youngest daughter, Helen, donated the home to the university upon her death.
The Beiger Mansion, pronounced By-gur, though known more colloquially as Bee-gur, was the palatial home of Martin Valentine and Susie Higgins Beiger at 317 Lincoln Way E. in Mishawaka, Indiana. In 1973 it was added to the National Register of Historic Places. Built in 1903 the home was burned to the ground in 1975 and has since been restored, though not to its former grandeur. The restoration process is still ongoing. It is now operated as a bed and breakfast and event facility.
Dodge House, also known as the Claeys House, is a historic home located at Mishawaka, St. Joseph County, Indiana. It was built about 1889, and is a 2+1⁄2-story, irregular plan, Queen Anne style brick dwelling. It has a tower, wraparound verandah, and hipped and gable roof.
Eller-Hosford House, also known as the Donald W. Crawford Residence, is a historic home located at Mishawaka, St. Joseph County, Indiana. It was built about 1875, and is a two-story, Italianate style frame dwelling with a one-story wing. It sits on a stone foundation, is sheathed in clapboard siding, and has a flat roof. It features large segmental arched windows, a full-width front porch with four columns decorated with lattice work, and cornice with paired large brackets. The house was renovated in 1979–1980.
Ellis-Schindler House, also known as the Robert Ellis House, is a historic home located at Mishawaka, St. Joseph County, Indiana. It was built in 1834, and is a 1+1⁄2-story, rectangular, Greek Revival style frame dwelling. It has a front gable roof and is sheathed in clapboard siding. The house was moved to its present location and renovated in 1979. It is the oldest known existing structure in Mishawaka.
Garth Stroup House, also known as the Merrifield-Cass House, is a historic home located at Mishawaka, St. Joseph County, Indiana. The original one-story dwelling was built in 1837, and enlarged to two-stories and one-story wing added in 1867. The frame dwelling exhibits Greek Revival, Federal, and Carpenter Gothic style design elements. It sits on a fieldstone and brick foundation. It features porches with gingerbread trim. The house is thought to be the oldest dwelling in continuing use in Mishawaka.
Normain Heights Historic District is a national historic district located at Mishawaka, St. Joseph County, Indiana. The district encompasses 224 contributing buildings and 1 contributing site in a planned post-World War II residential subdivision of Mishawaka. It was developed between 1946 and 1951, and includes notable examples of Modern Movement architecture. They are in seven house types randomly scattered throughout the district and were designed for families with low-to-moderate incomes.
Battell Park Historic District is a historic public park and national historic district located at Mishawaka, St. Joseph County, Indiana. The district encompasses two contributing buildings, one contributing site, two contributing structures, and one contributing object in a public park. It was established in 1881, and subsequently developed with a Soldiers' War Memorial erected in 1884 and Classical Revival style bandshell erected in 1927. In 1936–1937, the Works Progress Administration added a five-tier, cascading rock garden with a waterfall, small pools, and arched bridge.
Kamm and Schellinger Brewery, also known as 100 Center Complex, is a historic brewery complex located at Mishawaka, St. Joseph County, Indiana. The complex consists of the original Brewery Building, the Stable Building, and the Boiler House with a 262 foot tall brick chimney stack. The original Brewery Building was built in 1853, and is a four-story brick building with additions constructed about 1870 and 1875. It features an elaborate metal cornice, pediment and colonnaded cupola. The brewery cease operations in 1951.
Old Mishawaka Carnegie Library is a former public library and historic Carnegie library located at Mishawaka, St. Joseph County, Indiana. It was built in 1916, and is a one-story, Jacobethan Revival style, oriental brick building with terra cotta embellishments. It features a projecting entrance portico with limestone columns. An addition was constructed by the Works Progress Administration in 1937. It was built with a $30,000 grant from the Carnegie Foundation.
Tivoli Theater was a historic theatre building located at Mishawaka, St. Joseph County, Indiana. It was built in 1924–1925, and was a two-story, brick building with a facade featuring terra cotta ornamentation, a massive central arched window, and decorative art glass. The auditorium seated 1,500 patrons. The building consisted of three storefronts and the auditorium and lobby entrance, and office on the second floor. It was demolished in 2005.
Cooper-Alley House, also known as the George Alley Residence, is a historic home located in Noble Township, Shelby County, Indiana. It was built in 1863–1864, and is a two-story, rectangular, brick farmhouse with Greek Revival and Italianate style design elements. It has a gable roof and sits on a stone foundation. A one-story rear addition was built in the late-19th century.
Hershey House, also known as the Patrick Home, is a historic home located in Perry Township, Tippecanoe County, Indiana. It was built in 1856, and is a two-story, Greek Revival style brick dwelling, with a 1+1⁄2-story rear wing. It is three bays wide and has a gable front roof. Also on the property is a contributing fieldstone milk house. It was the home of William Hershey, son of the builder Joseph M. Hershey, who served with the 16th Independent Battery Indiana Light Artillery in the American Civil War and witnessed the assassination of Abraham Lincoln.
Indiana State Soldiers Home Historic District is a historic Soldiers Home and national historic district located in Tippecanoe Township and Wabash Township, Tippecanoe County, Indiana. The district encompasses four contributing buildings on the campus of the former Soldiers Home. They are the Post Exchange, Commandant's House, Library Building, and the Administration Building. Funding for the home was approved by the Indiana State Legislature in 1888, and building commenced in 1890. Most of the original buildings were demolished in the 1950s. The property continued to be administered by the Indiana Department of Veterans' Affairs as the Indiana Veterans’ Home
Tipton County Jail and Sheriff's Home is a historic combined jail and sheriff's residence located at Tipton, Tipton County, Indiana. It was designed by Adolph Scherrer who also designed the 1888 Indiana State Capitol and Tipton County Courthouse and built in 1894–1895. It is constructed of red brick with stone trim and consists of a 2+1⁄2-story residence and two-story jail section. The residence has a hip on gable roof, the jail a hipped roof, and there is a three-story tower located between the two sections.
Historic Wolcott House is a historic home located at Wolcott, White County, Indiana. It was built about 1859 by Anson Wolcott the founder of the town of Wolcott. It is a two-story, Italianate style wood-frame building with a rectangular wing. It sits on a rubblestone foundation and has a [wood shake] hipped roof. It was home to three generations of the politically prominent Wolcott family. The Anson Wolcott Historical Society is the caretaker of this beautiful historic home.
Stewart-Studebaker House, also known as the John Studebaker Residence, is a historic home located at Bluffton, Wells County, Indiana. It was built in 1882, and is a two-story, Second Empire style red brick dwelling topped by a slate mansard roof. It features a Mansarded tower above the main entrance.
John A. Grove House, also known as the Henry H. Hunsicker Residence, was a historic home located at Bluffton, Wells County, Indiana. It was built in 1891, and was a two-story, Queen Anne style frame dwelling. It featured a conical-roofed turret, steeply pitched hipped roof, and arcaded front porch.
YWCA Blue Triangle Residence Hall is a historic YWCA residence hall located at Indianapolis, Indiana. It was designed by the architecture firm Rubush & Hunter and built in 1924. It is a five-story, "L"-plan, Classical Revival style steel frame building clad in red brick. It has a raised brick faced foundation and central entrance with a carved limestone surround.
