Senator Mohammed D. Alkali (born 17 January 1950) was elected Senator for the Jigawa North West constituency of Jigawa State,Nigeria at the start of the Nigerian Fourth Republic,running on the People's Democratic Party (PDP) platform. He served from 29 May 1999 until May 2003. [1]
Alkali was born on 17 January 1950 at Gumel town,in Gumel local government area of Jigawa state. He was an Agricultural Instructor with the Northern Nigeria Ministry of Agriculture in Kano Province before going into private business. He worked at Messrs Umaru Na’Abba &Sons Limited,and later became chairman and managing director of Amasons International Limited. He was also on the board of Jos Steel Rolling Company and the Gumel Emirate Foundation. Alkali was given the traditional title of Sarduana of Gumel. [2]
After taking his seat in the Senate in June 1999,Alkali was appointed to committees on Aviation,Police Affairs,Transport (vice-chairman),Tourism &Culture and Local &Foreign Debts. [3] He was appointed Chairman of the Senate Committee on Special Projects. In this role,in September 2001,he called out for Federal assistance to victims of a flood disaster in Ringim Local Government,Jigawa State. [4]
Alkali was PDP candidate for governorship of Jigawa State in the 2003 elections,sponsored by then Minister for Foreign Affairs,Sule Lamido. Lamido's decision to ignore the recommendations of a PDP screening committee gave rise to violent protests. [5] He was defeated by Ibrahim Saminu Turaki of the All Nigeria People's Party (ANPP). [6] Alkali claimed that the ANPP had rigged the election and said he would challenge the result until "justice is seen to be done". [7] In May 2005,he was appointed a Federal Commissioner and Deputy Chief Whip in the presidency's Revenue Mobilisation and Fiscal Commission chaired by Alhaji Hamman A. Tukur. [8] [9] He held this post until 12 May 2010,when his five-year tenure expired. [10]
Alkali aspired to be PDP candidate for Jigawa State governor in 2007,but the party selected Sule Lamido in his place,and Lamido went on to be elected. [11] In April 2009,after he had announced plans to run for Jigawa Governor in the 2011 elections,the Gumel Emirate Council removed his title of "Sarduana Gumel". [6] This decision may have been due to pressure from Lamido. Alkali had not stated which party platform he would run on,but a spokesman for the Jigawa State chapter of the PDP said they would not endorse Alkali. [11]

Created on August 27,1991,under the General Ibrahim Babangida who announced the creation of nine additional states in the country bringing the total number of states then to thirty. The announcement was given a legal backing through the;State Creation and Transitional Provisions Decree No. 37 of 1991. Jigawa State was a part of Kano State and was located in the northeastern-most region of Kano State,and it forms part of Nigeria's national border with the Republic of the Niger. Alhaji Ibrahim Saminu Turaki is a Nigerian actuary and politician. He served as the executive governor of Jigawa State from 1999 to 2007. Prior to that,he was the Jigawa state chairman of the defunct Social Democratic Party (SDP) and United Nigeria Congress Party (UNCP). He is the PDP Candidate for the Jigawa North-West Senatorial District in the 2023 general elections

Sabo Mohammed Nakudu CON is a senator representing Jigawa South West District,Jigawa State,Nigeria. He is a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) He was once a Member of the Governing Board,Federal University of Technology Minna. He was also the Chairman Jigawa State Presidential Committee on Solid Mineral. He served in the Federal House of Representative for two tenures (2007-2011) and (2011-2015). He also serves as Senator Federal Republic of Nigeria between 2015 and 2019. He was declared winner for Jigawa South West Senatorial District by The Returning Officer for the election,Prof. Adamu Isge. He announced that Sabo scored 224,543 votes to defeat his PDP opponent,Mustapha Sule Lamido,who scored 143,611 votes. Following the 2019 election,Sabo Nakudu was assigned the chairman senate committee on downstream (petroleum) resources. This later led to him chairing the Ad-hoc Committee on the longstanding PIB. The Senate on Thursday 1 July 2021 passed the Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB) after nearly a year of deliberation. Having been revised on many occasions throughout the past thirteen years since it was first presented to the National Assembly in 2008,the PIB comprises a combination of 16 Nigerian petroleum laws that outline the governance framework that will attract investors into the country.

The 2023 Nigerian gubernatorial elections were held for state governors in 31 out of 36 Nigerian states. All but three elections were held on 18 March—concurrent with elections to every state house of assembly,three weeks after the presidential election and National Assembly elections—while the Imo State,Kogi State,and Bayelsa State elections will be held on 11 November. The last regular gubernatorial elections for all states were in 2019. All states have a two term limit for Governors which makes 18 incumbent governors ineligible for re-election.
The 2023 Jigawa State gubernatorial election took place on 18th of March 2023,to elect the Governor of Jigawa State,concurrent with elections to the Jigawa State House of Assembly as well as twenty-seven other gubernatorial elections and elections to all other state houses of assembly. The election—which was postponed from its original 11 March date—was later scheduled to hold three weeks after the presidential election and National Assembly elections. Incumbent APC Governor Mohammed Badaru Abubakar is term-limited and cannot seek re-election to a third term.
The 2019 Nigerian Senate election in Jigawa State was held on February 23,2019,to elect members of the Nigerian Senate to represent Jigawa State. Sabo Mohammed representing Jigawa South-West and Danladi Abdullahi Sankara representing Jigawa North-West,and Ibrahim Hadejia representing Jigawa North-East all won on the platform of All Progressives Congress.
The 2023 Nigerian Senate elections in Jigawa State will be held on 25 February 2023,to elect the 3 federal Senators from Jigawa State,one from each of the state's three senatorial districts. The elections will coincide with the 2023 presidential election,as well as other elections to the Senate and elections to the House of Representatives;with state elections being held two weeks later. Primaries were held between 4 April and 9 June 2022.
