Ifeanyi Godwin Ararume (born 16 December 1958) is a Nigerian politician who was appointed by the country's minister of Petroleum Resources,as the Chairman,board of management of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd.),in the wake of implementation of the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA). He is the senator representing Imo North at the 9th Nigerian National Assembly. He was elected Senator for the Imo North (Okigwe) constituency of Imo State,Nigeria at the start of the Nigerian Fourth Republic,running on the People's Democratic Party (PDP) platform. He took office on 29 May 1999. [1] He was re-elected in April 2003. [2] After taking his seat in the Senate [3] in June 1999,Ararume was appointed to committees on Communications,Police Affairs,Federal Character,Finance &Appropriation,Information and Niger Delta (vice chair). [4]
Ararume won the PDP primaries in 2007 to run for governor of Imo State. The party chose to run Charles Ugwu in his place. Ararume protested this decision and secured a Supreme Court ruling in his favor. The party expelled him and chose not to field a candidate,leaving the field open for Ikedi Ohakim of the Progressive Peoples Alliance (PPA). [5]
Ararume was born on 16 December 1958 in Isiebu,Umuduru in Isiala Mbano Local Government Area of Imo State,Nigeria,to late Marcus Ararume and Adaezi Grace Ararume (Nee Anyiam). He started his formal education at Saint Christopher Primary School,Umuluwe,Ajirija in Isiala Mbano. He completed his secondary education at Dick Tiger Memorial Secondary School,Amaigbo,after previously enrolling at Sapele Technical College,now in Delta State. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration from Liberty University in Lynchburg,Virginia,and a Master of Science degree (M.Sc.) in international relations from the University of Benin. Senator Araraume is a career politician. His history in politics began in the 1990s. He served as State Treasurer for Liberal Convention in old Imo State between 1988 and 1989. He joined National Finance Committee of the defunct National Republican Convention (NRC) created by former military dictator General Ibrahim Babangida from 1990 to 1993,and as Chairman,NRC Presidential Primaries for Kwara and Delta States. He was the pioneer State Chairman of the defunct All People's Party (APP);later All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) in Imo State (1998 –1999). [6]
He was elected to the Senate representing Imo North (Okigwe) constituency of Imo State,Nigeria in 1999 under the platform of People's Democratic Party (PDP) and was re-elected in 2003. During his tenure as a Senator,he served in Senate committees;he was the Chair of the Senate committee on Power and Steel,Vice Chairman of the Senate committee on Culture and Tourism,Vice Chairman of the Senate committee on the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC),Chairman Public Hearing committee for South-West zone on amendments to the 1999 Constitution,member of the National Assembly Joint Constitution Review Committee (JCRC) and Chairman of the Senate Committee on Local and Foreign Debts. He was Chairman of the Southern Senators' Forum. [6]
Ararume practices non-ideological politics. He jumps from one political party to another frequently. He has belonged to all the major political parties in Nigeria. His political career has been fraught with controversies. After winning PDP governorship primaries for Imo State in 2007,the party ran Charles Ugwu in his place due to disputes with party executives. [7] The party claimed his vote tally fell short of the two-thirds stipulation agreed by the party's Congress and that the election was marred by violence. Ararume protested this decision and secured a Supreme Court ruling in his favor. He was however,expelled from the party for anti-party activities [8] and the party chose not to field a candidate in the governorship election. Prior to his election as a senator in 1999,Ararume was the state chairman of the defunct All Peoples Party (APP). He decamped from the APP to PDP a few days before PDP's national assembly primaries where he won the nomination under controversial circumstances.
He later joined the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) where he contested the gubernatorial election in 2011 but lost to Rochas Okorocha of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA). [9] In 2014,Ararume rejoined the Peoples Democratic Party and contested for its gubernatorial nomination in 2015,which he lost to Chukwuemeka Ihedioha. [10] He later decamped again from PDP to All Progressives Congress (APC) and joined with the incumbent governor Okorocha during the 2015 governorship election. On 5 September 2018,Senator Ararume left the ruling party APC and joined APGA where he is currently contesting the gubernatorial nomination. [11]
The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) is a Nigerian political party formed in June 2002 and has governed the South eastern state of Anambra since 2003.

Owelle Rochas Anayo Okorocha is a Nigerian politician of Igbo extraction,from Imo State. He is the senator representing Imo West senatorial district at the 9th Nigerian Senate. From 2011 to 2019 he served as Governor of Imo State.

On 14 January 2020,the Supreme Court of Nigeria declared Uzodimma of the All Progressives Congress (APC) winner of the 2019 governorship poll in Imo State,nullifying the election of the then-incumbent governor Emeka Ihedioha.
Chukwuemeka Ihedioha;born 24 March 1965) is a Nigerian politician and businessman who served as governor of Imo State from 2019 to 2020. He was removed from office on 14 January 2020,by the Supreme Court of Nigeria which declared the APC candidate the authentic winner of the 2019 gubernatorial election. He was deputy speaker of the House of Representatives of Nigeria from 2011 to 2015.
Samuel Nnaemeka Anyanwu known as Sam Daddy is a Nigerian business executive and politician currently serving as the national secretary of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) since November 2021. He served as a senator in the 8th Nigeria National Assembly representing Imo East Senatorial District from 2015 to 2019 and sponsored the bill for the establishment of South East Development Commission passed by the 8th Senate but was vetoed by President Buhari. Anyanwu ran unsuccessfully for the PDP governorship nomination for the 2019 Imo State gubernatorial election. Chuka Odom is a Nigerian lawyer and 2015 People's Democratic Party (PDP) aspirant for Governor of Imo State. He was Commissioner for Special Duties between 2003 - 2007,in Abia State,Federal Minister of State for Environment,Housing and Urban Development from December 2007 to May 2009 and then Minister of state for FCT,a post he held until October 2010.

The 2019 Imo State gubernatorial election in Nigeria occurred on 9 March 2019. PDP's Emeka Ihedioha polled 38.29% of the total votes,defeating AA's Uche Nwosu who got 26.66% of popular votes,and several minor party candidates. Out of 27 LGAs,Ihedioha won in 11,while Nwosu won in 10.
The 2015 Imo State gubernatorial election was the 8th gubernatorial election of Imo State. Held on April 11,2015 and April 25,2015 due to inconclusive,the All Progressives Congress nominee Rochas Okorocha won the election,defeating Emeka Ihedioha of the People's Democratic Party.

Incumbent PDP governor Okezie Ikpeazu was term-limited and could not seek a third term. Alex Otti,a banker,gained the office for the Labour Party by a margin of victory over first runner-up and PDP nominee—Okey Ahiwe,the former Chief of Staff to Ikpeazu.
The 2023 Enugu State gubernatorial election took place on 18th March 2023,to elect the Governor of Enugu State,with Peter Mbah declared winner alongside his running mate Barrister Ifeanyi Ossai of the Peoples Democratic Party (Nigeria),after they got the plurality of votes and won over 25% of the votes in two-third of the state. Mr Mbah polled 160,895 votes to defeat his closest challenger,the Labour Party (Nigeria) candidate,Chijioke Edeoga,who scored 157,552 votes. The candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA),Frank Nweke Jr,garnered 17,983 votes to come a distant third,while the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC),Uche Nnaji,placed fourth,with 14,575 votes. The election was contested in the Tribunal by Chijoike Edeoga but the tribunal eventually upheld the victory of Peter Mbah.
The 2019 Nigerian Senate election in Imo State was held on February 23,2019,to elect members of the Nigerian Senate to represent Imo State. Rochas Okorocha representing Imo West and Frank Ibezim representing Imo North won on the platform of All Progressives Congress,while Onyewuchi Francis Ezenwa representing Imo East won on the platform of Peoples Democratic Party.
The 2023 Imo State gubernatorial election was held on 11 November 2023 due to the belated inauguration of incumbent Governor Hope Uzodinma,to elect the Governor of Imo State. Incumbent APC Governor Hope Uzodinma was re-elected,with him winning all the 27 local government areas. LP candidate Athan Achonu has filed a lawsuit against Uzodinma claiming that the election was "marred by irregularities,including vote buying and physical assaults of LP agents,and thus deserving of outright cancellation".
