Oorakam is a census town in Malappuram district in the state of Kerala, India. Oorakam is located midway between Malappuram and Vengara. Oorakam is approximately 12 km from Malappuram. [1]

As of 2001 India census, Oorakam had a population of 12589 with 6084 males and 6505 females. [1]

Transportation

The nearest airport is at Kozhikode. The nearest major railway station is at Parappanangadi. The Oorakam Village connected with local bus services between Malappuram and Vengara. This service running frequently by connecting most of areas in the village.

Tourist attractions

The village is located between Oorakam mountain range and Kadalundi River. Oorakam mala is the biggest mountain range in this area. Mini Ooty is a hill near Arimbra village in Kondotty area which can be accessed from Poolappis Junction on Vengara to Malappuram road. Around 6 km to the peak of the mount from state highway. There is a 2000 years old Jain temple at the top of the mountain.[ citation needed ]

It is visible from the Malappuram-Parappanangadi state highway between Vengara and Panakkad and is around 6 km to the peak of the mount from the highway. There is a Jain temple at the top of the mountain, which is around 2000 years old.

Arimbra Hills or Mini Ooty is a tourist spot between Malappuram and Kondotty in Malappuram district, Kerala, India. It is at a height of 445 meters (1,460 ft) above sea level. The place attracts a large number of visitors for its rolling hills and scenic views. The location got the nickname "Mini Ooty" because it resembles Ooty, one of the famous hill stations in India. Vengara Grama Panchayat is grama panchayat in Malappuram district, Kerala, India. It is situated in Vengara village in Thiroorangadi taluk. This panchayat was the largest panchayat in Malappuram district and was divided into Vengara and Kannamangalam in 1999-2000 year. The current geographical area of the panchayat is 18.66 km2. Though 70% of people in the panchyat depends upon agriculture, the income source is overseas jobs.

The Tirurangadi Taluk Office, also known as Hajur Kacheri, is a historic building located in Tirurangadi Talk of Malappuram District in the Indian state of Kerala. It houses the Tirurangadi Taluk Office since the post-independence Malabar District or British-era Madras Presidency. The Taluk office, which was once the Hajur Kacheri (Huzur Office) under the British, was one of the major administrative centers of the British government in Malabar region. The building also functioned as the headquarters of a short-lived Khilafat government during the rebellion.
