Riccarton is an area in Edinburgh's Green Belt, in Scotland. It is mainly undeveloped, with much farmland and few houses.

Riccarton is to the west of the Edinburgh City Bypass (the A720), and is known for being the location of Heriot-Watt University's main campus, including Oriam, Scotland's National Performance Centre for Sport which opened to the public in August 2016. [1]

In recent years, there have been numerous controversies surrounding potential development in the area. [2]

The area is bordered by Currie, Juniper Green and Curriehill to the south, The Calders (Wester Hailes) to the east, and Hermiston to the north. [3]

Sighthill is a suburb in the west of Edinburgh, Scotland. It is sometimes included in the Wester Hailes area, while the Calders, Bankhead and Parkhead are sometimes considered parts of Sighthill. The Calders is a residential neighbourhood in Edinburgh, Scotland – not to be confused with the Calders of West Lothian aka West Calder, Mid Calder and East Calder, three separate villages. It is sometimes considered to be part of Wester Hailes or Sighthill, larger developments to its south and east respectively. From 2007 to 2017, it fell within the Sighthill/Gorgie multi-member ward of the City of Edinburgh Council administration along with Sighthill, but following a boundary change has been in the Pentland Hills ward since then, along with Wester Hailes.

Hermiston is a hamlet formerly in the county of Midlothian and now part of Edinburgh, the capital of Scotland. It is north of Heriot-Watt University's Riccarton Campus and west of the Hermiston Gait commercial development. Hermiston is bounded by the A71 Calder Road to the south and the Union Canal to the north with the M8 motorway just beyond. A park and ride site serving western Edinburgh is located south-west of the A71 Calder Road roundabout.

Oriam is Scotland's national performance centre for sport, based at Heriot-Watt University's Riccarton campus in Edinburgh. It is also used by other sports teams, students and members of the public.

Mary Hill Burton (1819–1909) was a Scottish social and educational reformer and the first woman governor of Heriot-Watt College.

The 2021–22 East of Scotland Football League was the 93rd season of the East of Scotland Football League, and the 8th season as the sixth tier of the Scottish football pyramid system. The season began on 16 July 2021.
