SSR Institute of Management and Research is a Management education college located in Silvassa in the Union Territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu. [1] The late Mohanbhai Sanjibhai Delkar Lok Sabha MP established the college as one of four colleges in the SSR Memorial Trust including the SSR College of Arts, Science and Commerce. [2] The foundation stone was laid by the Mohanbhai Sanjibhai Delkar in 2003. [3]

The local administration has attempted to demolish the SSR College accommodation buildings housing 300 students. [4] SSR Memorial Trustee Abhinav Delkar, the son of Mohan Delkar, stated that "over 350 police personnel had turned up outside our college with bulldozers on June 27, 2020 to demolish the structure. They stopped only when my father managed to get a stay from the court". [5] On 11 March 2021 a senior Marine Drive police officer told the Times of India, "Some people were allegedly trying to destabilise a college trust property of Delkar’s, and were demanding money from him and pressurising him to induct certain people as trustees". [6]

The institute is approved by All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi, is an ISO 9001:2008 QMS Certified Institute. Recognized by administration of Dadra and Nagar Haveli. The institute is affiliated to the Savitribai Phule Pune University (Formerly known as University of Pune), Pune. [7]

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Daman and Diu</span> Former union territory in western India

Daman and Diu is a union territory in northwestern India. With an area of 112 km2 (43 sq mi), it was the smallest administrative subdivision of India on the mainland. The territory comprised two districts, Daman and Diu island, geographically separated by the Gulf of Khambat. The state of Gujarat and the Arabian Sea bordered the territory. A Portuguese colony since the 1500s, the territories were taken by India with the Annexation of Goa in 1961. Mohan Sanjibhai Delkar was an Indian politician and tribal rights advocate, who was elected seven times as a member of Lok Sabha from Dadra and Nagar Haveli constituency, in the Union Territory of Dadra & Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu. He had been part of Indian National Congress (INC), Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Janata Dal (United) (JDU) at various times, and had also founded his own party Bharatiya Navshakti Party for some period.

Dadra and Nagar Haveli Lok Sabha constituency is one of the two Lok Sabha constituencies in the union territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu. This constituency is reserved for the Scheduled Tribes.

NAMO Medical Education & Research Institute and Shri Vinoba Bhave Civil Hospital is a government medical college located in Silvassa in the Union Territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu. The union government allocated the fund of 289 crore for its construction. The foundation stone was laid by the Prime Minister of India Shri Narendra Modi on 19 January 2019, and the first undergraduate batch commenced on 15 August 2019.

The first case of the COVID-19 pandemic in India was reported on 30 January 2020, originating from China. Slowly, the pandemic spread to various states and union territories including the union territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu. The first case was recorded in this region on 10 April 2020.

Kalaben Mohanbhai Delkar is an Indian politician and a Member of Parliament from Dadra and Nagar Haveli parliamentary constituency in the Union Territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu. She is the first woman Member of Parliament from Dadra and Nagar Haveli as well as the first Shiv Sena MP outside Maharastra.
