Stephan's emerald dove also known as Stephan's dove (Chalcophaps stephani) is a species of bird in the family Columbidae. It is found in Sulawesi, New Guinea and the Solomon Islands. It is the most genetically divergent species in the genus Chalcophaps . [2]
It is a small compact dove with a short tail, 23–25 cm long, with a purple-brown body, and iridescent (green to blue depending on light angle; blackish in poor light) wings. The male has a clearly defined white forehead, the female a dull grey forehead. The legs are brown, the bill red. There are three subspecies: [3]
