Summit Air (8199400 Canada Inc. [5] ) is a Canadian airline headquartered in Yellowknife that operates scheduled, charter and cargo aviation throughout the Northwest Territories, Nunavut, and Yukon. Summit Air is a member of the Ledcor Group of Companies and operates in partnership with several other companies and communities including the Haisla Nation (Summit Kitamaat Aviation Limited Partnership), [6] Air Baffin (Summit Air Baffin), [7] the Det'on Cho Corporation (Det’on Cho Summit Aviation LP), [8] and businesses in the Kitikmeot Region (Summit Air Kitikmeot). Summit's head office is in Yellowknife and they operate in most of Western Canada with bases in Terrace, Lillooet, and Kamloops in British Columbia, and Fort McMurray, Edmonton, and Calgary in Alberta. In the Northwest Territories, their bases include Yellowknife and Norman Wells. [11] They also operate out of the United Kingdom for the Ministry of Defence and the Falcon Demonstration Team, a parachute team of the Royal Air Force.

History

Summit Air started in Atlin, British Columbia in 1987. In January 2001, the base of operations was moved to Yellowknife. The Ledcor Group of Companies became a partner on June 1, 2009. In August, 2012 Summit acquired Arctic Sunwest Charters and all aircraft operated by them were re-branded as Summit.

In January 2015, the airline acquired an Avro RJ85 jet aircraft which is being operated by Summit for Canadian North for use on services from Yellowknife and Edmonton. A second Avro RJ85 has since been ordered [12] and Summit Air has now added larger Avro RJ100 jet aircraft as well. [13]

Mesaba Aviation, Inc. was a regional airline in the United States that operated from 1944 until it merged with Pinnacle Airlines in 2012 to form Endeavor Air. It was based in Eagan, Minnesota From 2010 to 2012 the airline was a wholly owned subsidiary of Pinnacle Airlines Corp. with code sharing flights operated as Delta Connection for Delta Air Lines and US Airways Express for US Airways. Previously, the airline operated code sharing service as Northwest Airlink and Northwest Jetlink on behalf of Northwest Airlines which subsequently merged with Delta. First Air has assisted in various humanitarian missions such as the 2010 Haiti earthquake, airlifting relief supplies and equipment. Its main base, which included a large hangar, cargo and maintenance facility, was located at Ottawa Macdonald–Cartier International Airport, with hubs at Iqaluit Airport, and Yellowknife Airport. On November 1, 2019, the airline consolidated operations with Canadian North.

The British Aerospace 146 is a short-haul and regional airliner that was manufactured in the United Kingdom by British Aerospace, later part of BAE Systems. Production ran from 1983 until 2001. Avro International Aerospace manufactured an improved version known as the Avro RJ. Production for the Avro RJ version began in 1992. Later on, a further-improved version with new engines, the Avro RJX, was announced in 1997, but only two prototypes and one production aircraft were built before production ceased in 2001. With 387 aircraft produced, the Avro RJ/BAe 146 is the most successful British civil jet airliner program.
