Mingachevir, is the fourth-largest city in Azerbaijan with a population of about 104,500. It is known as city of lights because of its hydroelectric power station on the Kur River, which splits the city in half.
Ganja is Azerbaijan's second largest city, with a population of around 332,600. It was named Elisabethpol in the Russian Empire period. The city regained its original name, Ganja, in 1918 when Azerbaijan declared its independence. However, after incorporation into the Soviet Union its name was changed again in 1935 to Kirovabad and retained that name through most of the rest of the Soviet period. In 1989, during perestroika, the city regained its original name.
Ceyhan is a city and a district in the Adana Province, in southern Turkey, 43 km (27 mi) east of Adana. With a population of over 157,000, it is the largest district of the province, outside the city of Adana. Ceyhan is the transportation hub for Middle Eastern, Central Asian and Russian oil and natural gas. The city is situated on the Ceyhan River that flows through Çukurova plain. The Ceyhan River is dammed at Aslantas to provide flood control and irrigation for the lower river basin around Ceyhan.
Absheron Rayon, also spelled as Apsheron, is a rayon of Azerbaijan demarcated in 1963. Although it shares the same name as the Absheron Peninsula, the area covered by the rayon is not conterminous, being further west and mostly inland.
Naftalan is a city in Azerbaijan, surrounded by the rayon of Goranboy. It is located on an agricultural plain near the Lesser Caucasus Mountains. The word naftalan also means a petroleum product which can be obtained there.
Yevlakh is a city in Azerbaijan, 265 km west of capital Baku. It is surrounded by, but administratively separate from, the rayon of the same name. The city forms a distinct administrative division of Azerbaijan.
The District of Qusar is an administrative unit in the northern part of Azerbaijan. Its administrative center is Qusar city.
Tovuz is a rayon of Azerbaijan. It is situated between Shamkir and Agstafa, 360 km from Baku and 107 km from Tbilisi city. A major train line runs through the center, stopping at Tovuz Stansiya. Tovuz also borders Armenia near the village of Alibeyli.
The Sumgait pogrom was a pogrom that targeted the Armenian population of the seaside town of Sumgait in the Azerbaijan Soviet Socialist Republic in late February 1988. The pogrom took place during the early stages of the Karabakh movement. On February 27, 1988, mobs of ethnic Azerbaijanis formed into groups and attacked and killed Armenians on the streets and in their apartments; widespread looting and a general lack of concern from police officers allowed the violence to continue for three days.

Ilham Heydar oğlu Aliyev is the fourth and current President of Azerbaijan, serving since 31 October 2003.

Peace Dove is an allegorical sculpture in Nasimi Culture and Leisure Park in Sumgayit, Azerbaijan. The Peace Dove is the symbol of Sumgayit.
Heydar Aliyev's cult of personality, also known as Heydarism, became a significant part of Azerbaijani politics and society after he came to power in 1993 and continuing after his death in 2003, when his son Ilham Aliyev succeeded him. Aliyev, a former Soviet politburo member and the leader of Soviet Azerbaijan from 1969 to 1987, became the President of Azerbaijan in 1993. He then began to carefully design an autocratic system, with heavy reliance on family and clan members, oil revenues and patronage.
The Sumgayit 2013–14 season was Sumgayit's third Azerbaijan Premier League season. They finished 9th in the Premier League and they reached the Second Round of the Azerbaijan Cup where they were beaten by FK Baku. It is Agil Mammadov's first full season as manager.
The master plan of Baku White City refers to the re-development of a portion of Black City, 221-hectare land area, conceptualized to be part of the 2021 strategic plan for Baku.
Sumgayit Technologies Park launched in 2009, is the first Technology Park of its kind in Azerbaijan and the South Caucasus region. The park is located in Hacı Zeynalabdin settlement, north of Sumgait city. Currently, STP occupies about 250 hectares (2,500,000 m2) of land and it is planned to expand further.
Sumgayit Chemical Industrial Park was established by Decree #548 dated December 21, 2011 of the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and was registered on May 11, 2012.
The Sumgayit FK 2018-19 season was Sumgayit's eight Azerbaijan Premier League season, and ninth season in their history. It is their first season with Nazim Suleymanov as manager.
