Sykeston is a city in Wells County, North Dakota, United States. The population was 105 at the 2020 census. [3]
Sykeston was founded in 1883 by Richard Sykes, a prominent landowner and founder of several other cities in the state. [4] The city was the county seat of Wells County from 1884 to 1894, when Fessenden took over that role. [5]
As of 2010, the center of population of North Dakota was located approximately 9 miles (14 km) southeast of Sykeston. [6]
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 0.38 square miles (0.98 km2), all land. [7]

As of the census of 2010, there were 117 people, 65 households, and 36 families residing in the city. The population density was 307.9 inhabitants per square mile (118.9/km2). There were 85 housing units at an average density of 223.7 per square mile (86.4/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 98.3% White, 0.9% Asian, and 0.9% from two or more races.
There were 65 households, of which 13.8% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 38.5% were married couples living together, 9.2% had a female householder with no husband present, 7.7% had a male householder with no wife present, and 44.6% were non-families. 36.9% of all households were made up of individuals, and 16.9% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 1.80 and the average family size was 2.25.
The median age in the city was 53.9 years. 11.1% of residents were under the age of 18; 3.5% were between the ages of 18 and 24; 19.6% were from 25 to 44; 36.7% were from 45 to 64; and 29.1% were 65 years of age or older. The gender makeup of the city was 48.7% male and 51.3% female.
