With a population of 21,499 and a land area of just under 13 square miles, it is the smallest town on Connecticut's Gold Coast. It has the youngest population of any non-college town in Connecticut, a high rate of marriage, and high number of average children per household. Darien is also one of the wealthiest communities in the U.S.

It is in the southwest part of the town, on both sides of the Saugatuck River, extending south to where it enters Long Island Sound. North of Interstate 95, it occupies just the west side of the Saugatuck and continues north as far as U.S. Route 1. It is bordered to the north by Westport Village and to the west by the city of Norwalk. The CDP includes the communities of Owenoke and Saugatuck Shores, as well as the Metro-North Railroad Westport station.

Cornwall Bridge is a census-designated place (CDP) comprising the hamlets of Cornwall Bridge and Calhoun Corners in the towns of Cornwall and Sharon, Litchfield County, Connecticut, United States. It is primarily in the southwest corner of the town of Cornwall but extends west across the Housatonic River into the town of Sharon in the northern part of the CDP. U.S. Route 7 runs the length of the CDP, following the east side of the Housatonic River and crossing it on the Cornwall Bridge in the northern part of the CDP.

The CDP extends south to Compo Beach on Long Island Sound and north to U.S. Route 1. Interstate 95 crosses the middle of the CDP from east to west, with access from either Saugatuck or Greens Farms.
