Newport City Council is the governing body for Newport, one of the Principal Areas of Wales. It consists of 51 councillors, who represent the city's 20 wards.
Newport West is one of two parliamentary constituencies for the city of Newport, South Wales, in the House of Commons of the Parliament of the United Kingdom. It elects one Member of Parliament (MP) using the first-past-the-post voting system. Paul Flynn, of the Labour Party, was the MP from the 1987 general election until his death on 17 February 2019. Consequently, a by-election was held in the constituency on Thursday 4 April 2019. It is currently represented by Ruth Jones.

The City & County itself is usually simply referred to as Cardiff.

The 2022 Bridgend County Borough Council election took place on 5 May 2022 as part of the 2022 Welsh local elections. Fifty one councillors were elected to Bridgend County Borough Council.
Elections to Newport City Council were held on 5 May 2022 along with elections to the other 21 local authorities in Wales, community council elections in Wales and 2022 United Kingdom local elections. The previous full council election took place in May 2017, though there had also been a number of by-elections in the city in the intervening period.
Bridgend Central is the name of an electoral ward in Bridgend County Borough, Wales. It covers part of the county town of Bridgend. The ward elects three councillors to Bridgend County Borough Council.
Litchard is a village and residential district north of Bridgend, Wales. It is also an electoral ward in the Coity Higher community, as well as a former ward to Bridgend County Borough Council.
Llanwern is the name of an electoral ward for Newport City Council in south Wales. It covers several rural communities to the east of the city. It is represented by one city councillor.
