This list of electoral wards in Newport includes council wards, which elect councillors to Newport City Council in south Wales. There are also community wards, which elect councillors to community councils.

Since 2022 Newport has been divided into 21 city wards. There are also 14 community councils in the city and county.

The city is divided into 21 wards, since May 2022 electing 51 councillors. [1] [2] Most of these wards are coterminous with communities (parishes) of the same name. The following table lists city council wards, communities and associated geographical areas. Communities with a community council are indicated with a '*':

2022 city ward changes

Following a boundary review by the Local Democracy and Boundary Commission for Wales, the overall number of wards increased from 20 to 21, with an overall increase in the number of city councillors from 50 to 51. The changes were effective from the 2022 local elections. [5]

Llanwern is a community in the eastern part of the City of Newport, South East Wales. Llanwern is bounded by the M4 and Langstone to the north, Ringland, Lliswerry and the River Usk to the west, the River Severn to the south and the city boundary to the east. The population of the Llanwern community in 2011 was 333, which contains Llanwern village and the western half of the site of Llanwern steelworks. The area is governed by the Newport City Council. The community population dropped to 289 in 2011. The community also includes the area of Glan Llyn.

Newport Poor Law Union was a health and social security organisation in Newport, Monmouthshire and surrounding parishes. It was formed on 1 August 1836 under the Poor Law Amendment Act 1834 and was composed of 40 constituent parishes:

Bishton or Bishopston is a small rural community in the east of the city of Newport, South Wales. It lies in the Llanwern electoral district (ward) and contains the eastern end of Llanwern steelworks, the Underwood estate as well as Bishton itself. The population in the 2001 census was 2,181; dropping to 2,137 in 2011.

Magor and St Mellons Rural District was created on 1 April 1935 from Magor Rural District and St Mellons Rural District in the administrative county of Monmouthshire. The district was a mixture of suburban and semi-rural parishes around Newport and had its headquarters in Baneswell, Newport.

Tredegar Park is a community of the city of Newport. It is named after the nearby park, although the community covers a much smaller area.

The Newport and District Football League is a football league covering the city of Newport and surrounding areas in South Wales. The headquarters are located at Newport Civic Centre.

Tredegar Park and Marshfield is an electoral ward for Newport City Council in south Wales. It was created in 2022 by combining the former wards of Tredegar Park and Marshfield. It is represented by three city councillors.

Llanwern is the name of an electoral ward for Newport City Council in south Wales. It covers several rural communities to the east of the city. It is represented by one city councillor.
