The UST Golden Tigresses are the varsity women's volleyball team of the University of Santo Tomas. Formed in 1938, the same year of the inclusion of volleyball as an event in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP). [2] The Tigresses are the league's second winningest team with 16 titles behind Far Eastern University's 29 championships. [3]
The Tigresses won their first championship in Season 37 (1974) and went on to achieve a three-peat in the succeeding seasons. They then won for seven straight years from Season 47 (1984) until Season 53 (1990). [4]
They also have the third most final four appearances with 14, behind FEU's 22 and the De La Salle Lady Spikers' 20. [5] Teams that swept the elimination rounds in Seasons 56, 57, 59 and 65 were declared automatic champions.
They last won the UAAP Championship in Season 72 after defeating La Salle in the finals. They in turn lost to the Lady Spikers in two finals games the following year with Game One ending in a thrilling five-set match. [6] The Golden Tigresses barged back to the finals in Season 81 (2018), after defeating La Salle twice—for the #2 twice-to-beat play-off seeding and then in the semifinal game that resulted in a showdown with the #1-seeded Ateneo Lady Eagles. The Tigresses ended up as runners-up, losing to Ateneo in the best-of-three finals, 1–2. [7]
The Golden Tigresses, who used to be called the Lady Spikers also have the most titles won among collegiate teams in the Premier Volleyball League with six, beginning at the inaugural tournament in 2004 when the league was still known as the Shakey's V-League. [8]
They also have six UNIGAMES Women's volleyball championships, beginning in 2009 and capped by a three-peat from 2016 until 2018. [9] The Tigresses finished third in 2019 after defeating the NU Lady Bulldogs in three straight sets. They lost to the College of St. Benilde Lady Blazers in their semifinals match which ended their championship streak in the annual tournament.
The Tigresses also joined the Philippine Super Liga's 2018 Collegiate Grand Slam Conference and ended up as runners-up to the eventual champions, the UP Lady Maroons after topping the elimination round with an undefeated record of 5–0. [10]

The UST Golden Tigresses and the FEU Lady Tamaraws met in the finals for a total of 13 seasons, with UST winning 11 times. [11]
The rivalry between the De La Salle Lady Spikers and the Tigresses has also been apparent in women's volleyball with the two teams being frequent finalists in the UAAP Volleyball Championships, the UNIGAMES and the Shakey's V-League. The two teams met four times in the UAAP finals, with La Salle winning three. They also faced each other thrice in the finals of the Shakey's V-League, with UST winning the first and the Lady Spikers winning the latter two. The Tigresses have also defeated La Salle thrice in the UNIGAMES finals.

The University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP), established in 1938, is an athletic association of eight Metro Manila universities in the Philippines. The eight-member schools are Adamson University (AdU), Ateneo de Manila University (AdMU), De La Salle University (DLSU), Far Eastern University (FEU), National University (NU), University of the East (UE), University of the Philippines Diliman (UP), and the University of Santo Tomas (UST). Varsity teams from these universities compete annually in the league's 30 events from 17 disciplines to vie for the overall championship title, namely, 3x3 basketball, badminton, baseball, basketball, beach volleyball, chess, fencing, football, judo, softball, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo poomsae, taekwondo kyorugi (sparring), tennis, track and field, and volleyball.
The UST Growling Tigers are the college athletic teams representing the University of Santo Tomas in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines. They hold the most UAAP Overall Championships with 44 Seniors' Overall Championships and 21 Juniors' Overall Championships.
UAAP Season 71 was the 2008–2009 season of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines. The University of the Philippines (UP) hosted this season, which coincided with the centennial anniversary of the University's establishment. It opened on July 5, 2008 with an elaborate ceremony held at the Araneta Coliseum.
The school rivalry between Ateneo de Manila University and De La Salle University began when both educational institutions participated in the National Collegiate Athletic Association of the Philippines (NCAA), and has carried over to the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) where both universities compete in currently. Prior to UAAP Season 84, the Ateneo men's varsity team was known as the Ateneo Blue Eagles, women's varsity team as the Ateneo Lady Eagles, and high school team as the Ateneo Blue Eaglets. In May 2022, Ateneo de Manila University decided to unify student athletes and varsity teams under the "Blue Eagles" moniker, regardless of sport, gender, or age group.
The rivalry between the De La Salle University (DLSU) Green Archers and the University of Santo Tomas (UST) Growling Tigers is contested at the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP). Although the men's basketball rivalry had died down after the 1990s, it returned in 2013 as both schools again met in the UAAP basketball championship series. The rivalry had also been apparent in women's volleyball where the two teams are frequent finalists in the UAAP Volleyball Championship and the Shakey's V-League.
The seniors' division of the UAAP Season 71 volleyball tournaments opened December 6, 2008. Tournament host will be Far Eastern University. Tournament games will be at the Far Eastern University Gym and The Arena in San Juan.
UAAP Season 74 was the 2011–2012 athletic year of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines. It was hosted by Ateneo de Manila University. The men's basketball and the women's volleyball tournaments were aired by ABS-CBN Channel 2 and Studio 23 for the twelfth consecutive year. The opening ceremony was held on July 9, 2011 at the Marikina Sports Center.
The seniors' division of the UAAP Season 74 volleyball tournaments opened November 26, 2011. Tournaments are hosted by Ateneo de Manila University. Tournament games are held at the Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan City.
The UST Growling Tigers men's basketball is the intercollegiate men's basketball program of the University of Santo Tomas. The school has won 19 basketball titles including one in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). They are one of the winningest teams in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) with 18 championships, the last coming in 2006 during Pido Jarencio's rookie year of coaching. Their head coach as of October 8, 2020 is Jino Manansala.
UAAP Season 75 was the 2012–2013 athletic year of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines. The season's theme was "Unbreakable at 75" in relation to the league's diamond year. It was hosted by National University.
UAAP Season 76 is the 2013–2014 athletic year of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines. It was hosted by Adamson University with Fr. Maximino D. Rendon, C.M. as president.
