Undercover Brothers Ug also simply known as Undercover Brothers are a Ugandan music duo composed of guitarist and vocalist Jay K Mulungi and vocalist Timothy Kirya, [2] whose music career sparked off when they won the auditions and represented Uganda in the sixth season of East Africa's biggest singing competition Tusker Project Fame . [3] [4] The duo released their first album titled At Dawn in December 2014. [5] In December 2016, their song Nsikatila was nominated in the Best R&B Song category at HiPipo Music Awards (#HMA) 2017.

The duo has shared the stage with some of Uganda's biggest stars such as Rachael Magoola, Jackie Chandiru, Madoxx Ssemanda Sematimba, Maurice Kirya, Jemimah Sanyu and Chantal Letio.

History

Undercover Brothers Ug landed on the East African music stage when they represented Uganda in East Africa's biggest singing competition Tusker Project Fame season six, though they did not win. [6] Since then, the duo, however, did not look back but instead continued entertaining people with their best guitar tunes and sweet melodies and suddenly they released their first album, At Dawn.

Undercover Brothers Ug held their first ever concerts dubbed Unveiling Undercover Brothers Ug [7] on the 13 and 20 December 2014 in Kampala. These concerts acted as their official release dates for their first album, At Dawn which sold physical copies at the concerts. The first concert was blessed by a performance by Uganda's king of Mwooyo Maurice Kirya. The third single, Nsikatila marketed the album which increased album sales [5] in December 2014. The duo released their first music video for the song Diamond, a collabo with Uganda's young rapper Young Zee [8] in May 2014. The duo was one of the few artists and bands chosen to entertain people on World Music Day 2014 [9] and 2015 [10] organised by Alliance Francaise in Kampala, Uganda. The duo has also performed at different music festivals including Pearl Rhythm Festival alongside Jackie Chandiru in October 2014 [11] after winning the Pearl Rhythm Stage Coach Auditions, [12] Bayimba International Music Festival, Laba Street Art Festival [13] as well as the Milege World Music Festival organized by Milege in November 2014, [14] and 2015, [15] Nyege Nyege 2015 and 2016 where they slayed the festival with a great heavy performance, [16] Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) Festival and many more.

The Undercover Brothers, with The Kava Band - a live performing band they formed in 2016, have held weekly shows at different locations in Kampala starting with Istanbul Restaurant early 2016, The Game Club late 2016 and Bubbles Olearys from January to August 2017. While on these weekly shows, the Undercover Brothers have hosted other Ugandan musicians such as Vampino, Chameleone, The Tabs Ug, Kenneth Mugabi, Micheal Kitanda, Levixone, Happy Kyaze and many others.

From mid-2017, Undercover Brothers flanked by their cover band have been playing at Alex Muhangi's weekly comedy show Comedy Store Uganda in Kampala. [17]

Alex Julius Kwesigabo, better known by his stage name Flex D'Paper, is a Ugandan rapper and songwriter born and raised in Kampala. Starting off his music career, Flex D'Paper was part of the high school rap group, The Rapaholix, which he started with friends, Dasper Cosine and later joined by Apass as an affiliate with whom the trio put out a mix tape, The Eviction Notice that included chart topping singles like "Burning", "Party Life" and "Follow Me" which topped countdowns in Uganda such as NTV and Sanyu FM. Flex D'Paper was part of the 2014 UG Cypher including the finest Ugandan rappers: Navio, Keko, Big Tril, Don MC, AirporTaxi rappers St. Nelly Sade, GNL Zamba, DJ Global, JB, The Mith, Ruyonga, and Atlas.

Jemimah Sanyu, also known as the Stage Gladiator, is a Ugandan musician, performer, producer, and voice coach. She has a commanding stage presence with a very strong voice. Sanyu has met people like President Yoweri Museveni while singing at the I am a Ugandan album premier. She has shared a stage with top African stars like Habib Koite, Navio, Joanita Kawalya of Afrigo Band, and Juliana Kanyomozi. and many other African stars.

Milege Afrojazz Band, commonly known as Milege, is a world music band from Uganda, made up of young talented musicians from Uganda whose enthusiasm is derived from the diverse cultural music traditions of the different tribes of Uganda into which they fuse contemporary elements to express the likeness of Uganda's people in a more current context. As of 2015 Milege's members are; guitarist Manana F. Birabi, vocalist Joanita Katushabe, lead vocalist Gloria Akugizibwe, bassist Paul Owembabazi and violinist Alison Nadunga as a seasoned member.

Giovanni Kiyingi, is a Ugandan folk singer-songwriter and world music artist. He is known for his skills as a multi-instrumentalist who plays the local Ugandan fiddle (endingidi), akogo, adungu, guitar, harmonica, flute, djembe, calabash, congas, drums, and maracas, among others. He was one of the Ugandan artists chosen to welcome Pope Francis to Uganda at Kololo on 27 November 2015.

Suzan Kerunen is a Ugandan world music singer and songwriter who performs African contemporary music in the local Ugandan language of Alur-Jonam as well as in English, Swahili and other world languages. She is a double Kora Award nominee who competed against Ethiopia's Michaih Behaylu, Astar and Bluz and Kenyan Wahu and a PAM Award winner. She was appointed Uganda National Tourism Ambassador to promote Cultural Tourism. At Dawn is the debut EP released in 2014 by the Ugandan music duo Undercover Brothers Ug. Nsikatila, sometimes spelt Nsikatira, is a world-pop love song by Ugandan music duo Undercover Brothers Ug. It was released as the second single from their first EP album and first major release, At Dawn in December (2014) and re-released in January as the first single from their 2016 album, Hitlist. Co-written by the duo's Timothy Kirya and Jay K Mulungi and produced by Jude Mugerwa, the lyrics portray a lover who stammers whenever he talks to his lover.

Arinaitwe Rurihona, professionally known as Haka Mukiga is a Ugandan world and folk singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, poet and dancer. He sings in a number of local languages including Rukiga, Acholi, Rukonjo and Rufumbira.

Balikoowa is a Ugandan drama-comedy series that airs on Spark TV - Uganda. The series is directed by Kennedy Kihire, produced at Fast Track Productions and stars Marion Asiro, Housen Mushema, Monica Birwinyo and Undercover Brothers Ug's Jay K. Mulungi.
