United Industrial Bank (UIB) was founded in Calcutta in 1940 by Jadunath Ray. In 1989 Allahabad Bank acquired it in a rescue.

Allahabad Bank India national bank

Allahabad Bank is a nationalised bank with its headquarters in Kolkata, India. It is the oldest joint stock bank in India. On 24 April 2014, the bank entered into its 150th year of establishment. The bank was founded in Allahabad in 1865.

In 1963 UIB acquired two banks. One was the Prabartak Bank, which the Prabartak Sangha movement had founded in Calcutta on 17 September 1929 as the Prabartak Bank and Insurance Company. At one point Prabartak Bank had a branch in Chittagong. The other was the Bank of Bankura, which had been established in Calcutta on 8 June 1936.

Prabartak Sangha is a Hindu religious institution known for its social work. It was founded in 1920 by Motilal Roy, a revolutionary, who was inspired and initiated in the spiritual path by Sri Aurobindo. Based in Chandernagore, the Prabartak Sangha in its heyday had branches in the districts of Howrah, undivided 24 Parganas and Chittagong. It has a temple, a monastery, a boys school, a girls school and a destitute home.

Chittagong, officially known as Chattogram, is a major coastal city and financial centre in southeastern Bangladesh. The city has a population of more than 2.5 million while the metropolitan area had a population of 4,009,423 in 2011, making it the second-largest city in the country. It is the capital of an eponymous District and Division. The city is located on the banks of the Karnaphuli River between the Chittagong Hill Tracts and the Bay of Bengal. Modern Chittagong is Bangladesh's second most significant urban center after Dhaka.

In 1964 United Industrial Bank acquired two more banks: Metropolitan Bank on 6 February, and Southern Bank on 24 August. Both Southern and Metropolitan Bank had been established in Calcutta, Southern on 10 October 1934, and Metropolitan on 16 October 1936.

In 1965 the Government of East Pakistan took over UIB's branch in East Pakistan.

At the time of its merger into Allahabad Bank, United Industrial had 145 branches.

Church of North India

The Church of North India (CNI), the dominant United denomination in northern India, is a united church established on 29 November 1970 by bringing together the Anglican and Protestant churches working in northern India; it is a province of the worldwide Anglican Communion. It is the successor of the Church of England in India along with the Church of Pakistan and the Church of South India. The merger, which had been in discussions since 1929, came eventually between the Church of India, Pakistan, Burma and the Ceylon (Anglican), the United Church of Northern India,, the Baptist Churches of Northern India, the Church of the Brethren in India, which withdrew in 2006, the Methodist Church and the Disciples of Christ denominations.

Canara Bank A Public Sector Bank in India

It is one of the oldest public sector banks in the country. Economy of Kolkata

Kolkata is the prime business, commercial and financial hub of eastern India and the main port of communication for the North-East Indian states, It is one of the most important metro cities of India. Orient Airways Ltd. was an airline established in 1946 with its base in Calcutta, Bengal, British India. The airline shifted operations to the newly independent state of Pakistan in 1947, and was rechristened as Pakistan International Airlines in 1955. It was the first and only Muslim owned airline in British Raj and flew from 1947 to 1955.

P&O Banking Corporation, was a bank established in 1920, by Peninsular and Oriental Steam Navigation Company to develop its private banking business.

The Alliance Bank of Simla was a British-run though India-registered bank that commenced operations in Simla in 1874 under the management of James Lewis Walker. The bank was established to take over the business of the United Bank of India, established in 1866, which had operations in Simla and Umballa. Its board put the United Bank of India in voluntary liquidation on Saturday 21 March, and Alliance Bank commenced operations on Monday, 23 March. Alliance Bank failed on 27 April 1923 due to speculation by its management. At the time that it failed it had 36 branches, including ones in Lahore, Lucknow, Peshawar, Rawalpindi, and Rangoon.

Zamindars of Bengal

The Zamindars of Bengal were influential in administration, in the Bengal region, in the eastern part of the Indian subcontinent, which consists of territories East Bengal which is now Bangladesh and West Bengal. The Nawabs of Bengal ruled the area under the Mughal Empire from 1717 to 1880. Murshid Quli Jafar Khan governed the area, through his feudal chiefs, the zamindars, which mirrored the European system of serfdom. The zamindars dominated most of the villages in Bengal. Zamindars were the landholders of demarcated areas, responsible for collecting revenue for the monarchy and rose into prominence during the British colonial era, owing to the opportunity availed by the British in India. Mostly credited with cultural, architectural, educational, economical development and urbanisation of Calcutta and discredited for the exploitation of rural Bengal.

The Eastern Bank Limited, was a British bank founded in 1909 in London, to help finance trade with Far east. In 1957 Chartered Bank, acquired Eastern, and eventually absorbed it into Standard Chartered in 1971.

New Bank of India was established in 1936, in Lahore by Mulk Raj Kohli, a professor of Economics turned banker. It moved its head office to Amritsar in 1947, and then to New Delhi in 1956. It acquired Didwana Industrial Bank in 1965, Chawla Bank in 1969, and Sahukara Bank in 1971. Earlier New Bank of India had acquired Punjab & Kashmir Bank.
