The University of Timor (Indonesian: Universitas Timor, abbreviated Unimor) is an Indonesian public university in the island of Timor, in the town of Kefamenanu which is part of the North Central Timor Regency. As a public university, Unimor accepts students partially through the SNMPTN system administered nationwide. [1] It is one of the two public universities on the Indonesian part of the island, the other being the University of Nusa Cendana.
Following the independence of East Timor and exodus of Indonesian nationals (many to Kefamenanu), the teaching staff formerly from Universitas Timor Timur established the university in 2000 on a 40-hectare plot of land donated by the local council and a Rp 2 billion funding from the central government. [2] Initially a private university, it attempted to be nationalized starting around 2010 and after several rejections, was officially made a public university in 2014. [3] [4]
Located 7 hours away from the provincial capital of Kupang, the university is close to the border with East Timor and hence receive some students from across the border. In 2017, it claimed that 6,000 East Timorese students had studied at Unimor. [5] As comparison, there were 5,000 active students in the same year with an intake of 1,500. [6] The institute has been categorized as part of the fourth cluster - the lowest tier - among other higher education institutions in Indonesia, as of 2017. [7]

North Central Timor Regency is a regency in East Nusa Tenggara Province, Indonesia. It covers an area of 2,669.70 km2, and had a population of 229,803 at the 2010 Census and 259,829 at the 2020 Census; the official estimate as at mid 2022 was 268,067. Its regency seat is located at the town of Kefamenanu, which had a population of 49,095 in mid 2022. The regency borders Timor Leste's Oecusse enclave, one of few Indonesian regions that have a land border with other countries.

MV Nusa Kenari 02 was an Indonesian passenger boat which sank off Alor on 15 June 2019. At least three people was killed due to the sinking, with four further missing out of the 52 passengers and crew aboard the vessel.
Ari Kuncoro is an Indonesian banker, economist, author and university administrator, and the current rector of the University of Indonesia. He took office on 4 December 2019, succeeding Muhammad Anis. Before becoming the rector of the University of Indonesia (UI), Ari taught at the Faculty of Economics and Business, becoming the faculty's dean from 2013 until 2019. Ari also held the office of chief commissioner of the Bank Negara Indonesia since 2017 and continued to held the office after his election as rector. Ari ended his term as chief commissioner in February 2020 and assumed the office of deputy chief commissioner of the Bank Rakyat Indonesia (BRI) in the same year. His new post sparked protests from the university's internal, who demanded him to resign from his position in BRI as it violated the university statute. In response to this, the government removed the limitations from the university statute in a controversial amendment, but Ari later resigned from his position in BRI in July 2021.
