The S class are a class of diesel locomotives built by Clyde Engineering, Forrestfield for Westrail in 1998.
The S class were the first and only dual-cab locomotives purchased by Westrail. In May 1996 nine were ordered from Clyde Engineering as part of an order that also included 15 1,435 mm (4 ft 8+1⁄2 in) standard gauge Q class locomotives. [1] [2] The order later extended to eleven. [3] [4] They are an evolution of the FreightCorp 82 class. All were assembled at a facility established by Clyde Engineering within Westrail's Forrestfield Depot to fulfill the contract. The frames were built at Clyde's Somerton plant with other components manufactured at Kelso. [5]
The S class locomotives entered service in June 1998 hauling ore and mineral trains in South West Western Australia. [6] All were in service by November 1998 [7]
All were included in the sale of Westrail to Australian Railroad Group in December 2000, with the class redesignated as the 3300 class. [8] In 2012, all were included in service operated by Aurizon. [9]
In 2008, Rio Tinto ordered two standard gauge JT42Cs of the same design as the S class for the Weipa bauxite railway, numbered R1005 and R1006. They were delivered in 2009. [10] R1005 remains in service today, while R1006 was withdrawn and scrapped following a collision in September 2019.
Australian Transport Network (ATN) was a freight railway operator in Australia that commenced operating in November 1997. The company operated narrow gauge trains in Tasmania and standard gauge trains in New South Wales and Victoria. It was formed as a joint venture with Tranz Rail owning 67% and Wisconsin Central 33%. In February 2004, ATN was sold to Pacific National.
The 82 class are a class of diesel locomotives built by Clyde Engineering, Braemar for The New South Wales State Rail Authority's FreightRail division in 1994–1995. The sale of FreightCorp and its assets along with National Rail in 2002 saw ownership of all 55 remaining 82 class locomotives transferred to the newly formed Pacific National and patched over with its logos. As of October 2024, all but one of these locomotives remains in active service with Pacific National, one having been scrapped in 2016 after sustaining significant fire damage.
The 49 class are a class of diesel locomotives built by Clyde Engineering, Granville for the New South Wales Department of Railways between 1960 and 1964.
The BL class are a class of diesel locomotives built by Clyde Engineering, Rosewater, for Australian National between 1983 and 1986. All but BL35 remain in service with Pacific National.
The N Class are a class of diesel locomotives built by Clyde Engineering in Somerton for V/Line between 1985 and 1987.

The GT46C is a model of diesel-electric locomotive designed and built by Clyde Engineering using Electro-Motive Diesel components. A number of Australian rail freight operators purchased them from 1997: Aurizon as the Q class, FQ class, and V class. As of 2022, all 24 locomotives were owned by Aurizon following its purchase of certain One Rail Australia assets in July 2022.

The class was the last in the world to be built with the Electro-Motive Diesel bulldog nose but differed from previous builds in having a mansard roof.
The GM class are a class of diesel locomotives built by Clyde Engineering, Granville for the Commonwealth Railways in several batches between 1951 and 1967. As of January 2014, some remain in service with Aurizon and Southern Shorthaul Railroad.

The GT42CU AC is a model of diesel electric locomotives manufactured by EDi Rail, Maryborough between 1999 and 2005 under licence from Electro-Motive Diesel, for use on narrow gauge railways in Queensland.
