Yatton is an unincorporated rural community in Mapleton Township, Wellington County, Ontario, Canada. [1]
The area was settled by people in the early 1820s, when Black Loyalists, African-Canadians and African-American immigrants arrived to the wilderness of the Queen's Bush. The majority was settled down between Peel Township (Wellington County) and Wellesley Township (Waterloo County). Until the late 1840s the Queen's Bush remained an unorganized territory. Three African-Canadian churches was constructed in the Queen's Bush and one of them was in Yatton, reverend Samuel H. Brown established that on his farm. [2] [3]
Wellington County is a county located in Southwestern Ontario, Canada and is part of the Greater Golden Horseshoe. The County, made up of two towns and five townships, is predominantly rural in nature. However many of the residents in the southern part of the County commute to urban areas such as Guelph, Kitchener, Waterloo, Brampton, Mississauga, Toronto and Hamilton for employment. The northern part of the county is made up of mainly rural farming communities, except for a few larger towns such as Mount Forest and Arthur. According to the 2016 Census, the population of the County was 90,932.
The Township ofPerth South is a lower-tier municipality in southwestern Ontario, Canada. It is in Perth County at the confluence of the River Thames and the Avon River. The township was created on January 1, 1998 from the amalgamation of the former Township of Blanshard and the former Township of Downie. The land area of Perth South is 393.14 square kilometers. The population in 2016 was 3,810.
Fergus is the largest community in Centre Wellington, a township within Wellington County in Ontario, Canada. It lies on the Grand River about 18 km NNW of Guelph. The population of this community at the time of the 2016 Census was 20,767, but the community is growing as new homes are being built for sale.

Richard Pierpoint, also known as Black Dick, Captain Dick, Captain Pierpoint, Pawpine, and Parepoint was a British soldier of Senegalese descent. Brought to America as a slave, he was granted freedom to fight on the side of the British in the American Revolution. After the war he settled in a Black community in Upper Canada, where he was given some land. He also participated in the War of 1812.

The Queen's Bush was an unsettled area in Ontario, between Waterloo County, Ontario and Lake Huron where African Americans settled and established farms and a community. They built churches and schools. After growing to a settlement of more than 2,000, the land that they had farmed was claimed as Clergy reserves by the colonial government. Most residents were unable to pay for the land and migrated out of Queen's Bush.
