International events

The 1981 Central American and Caribbean Championships in Athletics were held at the Estadio Olímpico Juan Pablo Duarte in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic between 10–12 July.

The 1981 South American Championships in Athletics were held in La Paz, Bolivia.

The 1981 IAAF World Cross Country Championships was held in Madrid, Spain, at the Hipodromo de la Zarzuela on March 28, 1981. A report on the event was given in the Glasgow Herald.

Magno Mesías Zapata is a male race walker from Ecuador. He competed for his native country at the 2007 Pan American Games. He won the bronze medal at the Pan American Race Walking Cup in 2009 and also walked at the 2009 World Championships in Athletics, where he was 30th over 50 km. He has also taken part in the IAAF World Race Walking Cup.

Hyleas Fountain is an American heptathlete. She was the silver medalist in the event at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

Naoyuki Daigo is a male high jumper from Japan. His personal best jump is 2.33 metres, achieved in July 2006 in Kobe.

Amarilys Alméstica Rivera is a female hammer thrower from Puerto Rico. She set her personal best throw on July 3, 2006 at a meet in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.

Rosibel García Mina is a Colombian track and field athlete who specialises in middle-distance running events. She has represented her country at the Summer Olympics and has also competed at the World Championships in Athletics.

Rita Jeptoo Kenyan marathon runner

Rita Jeptoo is a Kenyan marathon runner. Originally a winner of the Boston Marathon three times, including setting the then course record at 2:18:57 in 2014, she had also won marathons in Chicago, Stockholm, and Milan, as well as having represented Kenya in the event at the 2007 World Championships in Athletics. She was the bronze medalist at the 2006 IAAF World Road Running Championships.

Yelena Konevtseva known by her full name Yelena Nikolayevna Konevtseva is a hammer thrower from Russia. Her personal best is 76.21 metres, achieved in May 2007 in Sochi.

Stefan Wenk is a male javelin thrower from Germany. His personal best throw is 83.94 metres, achieved in June 2006 at Bislett stadion.

Aliaksandr Parkhomenka is a Belarusian decathlete.

Moushaumi Robinson is an American track and field athlete. She represented the United States at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, where she won a gold medal in the 4×400 metres relay for her contributions in the preliminary round.

Track and field Sport involving running, jumping and throwing disciplines

Track and field is a sport which includes athletic contests established on the skills of running, jumping, and throwing. The name is derived from where the sport takes place, a running track and a grass field for the throwing and some of the jumping events. Track and field is categorized under the umbrella sport of athletics, which also includes road running, cross country running, and race walking.

2003 European Athletics Junior Championships

The 2003 European Athletics Junior Championships was held in Tampere, Finland from 23–27 July 2003. A total of 44 events were contested; 22 by men and 22 by women. Germany had the biggest medal haul with nine golds and a total of 26, closely followed by Russia. Great Britain was third with 17 medals, while Romania was fourth with ten medals. Four championship records were set at the competition, although three were as a result of using lighter implements in the men's throwing events.

UK Athletics Championships

The UK Athletics Championships was an annual national championship in track and field for the United Kingdom, organised by the British Athletics Federation. The event incorporated the 1980 Olympic trials for the British Olympic team. The venue for the event was rotational and designed to be inclusive – all four Home Nations hosted the event during its twenty-year existence, as well as several areas of England.

Athletics at the 1997 Summer Universiade

The athletics at the 1997 Summer Universiade took place in the Stadio Cibali in Catania, Sicily (Italy) at the end of August 1997, shortly after the World Championships in Athens, Greece. New events were the women's hammer throw, pole vault and half marathon competition. The marathon was dropped from the programme in favour of the half distance. A total of 23 men's and 22 women's events were contested.

The 4th World Festival of Youth and Students featured an athletics competition among its programme of events. The events were contested in Bucharest, Romania in August 1953. Mainly contested among Eastern European athletes, it served as an alternative to the more Western European-oriented 1953 Summer International University Sports Week held in Dortmund the same year.

1982 UK Athletics Championships

The 1982 UK Athletics Championships was the national championship in outdoor track and field for the United Kingdom held at Cwmbran Stadium, Cwmbran. It was the second time the event was held in the Welsh town, following on from the 1977 UK Athletics Championships. The women's 5000 metres race walk was dropped from the programme for this championship.

1983 UK Athletics Championships

The 1983 UK Athletics Championships was the national championship in outdoor track and field for the United Kingdom held at Meadowbank Stadium, Edinburgh. It was the second time the event was held in the Scottish city, following on from the 1978 UK Athletics Championships. The women's 5000 metres race walk was restored to the programme after an absence at the 1982 event.

1993 UK Athletics Championships

The 1993 UK Athletics Championships was the national championship in outdoor track and field for the United Kingdom held at Crystal Palace Athletics Stadium, London. It was the second time that the British capital hosted the event, having previously done so in 1980. It would be the last outing of the series in its annual format.

Jamaican Athletics Championships Track and field national championships of Jamaica

The Jamaican Athletics Championships is an annual outdoor track and field competition organised by the Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association, which serves as the national championship for the sport in Jamaica.
