In 2019, the main athletic events are the 2019 IAAF World Cross Country Championships, the 2019 IAAF World Relays, and the 2019 World Athletics Championships.

2019 IAAF World Cross Country Championships

The 2019 IAAF World Cross Country Championships were hosted in the city of Aarhus in Denmark. It was the 43rd edition of the championships and was held on 30 March 2019.

2019 IAAF World Relays

The 2019 IAAF World Relays was held in Yokohama, Japan from May 11 to May 12, 2019. Two new events were established for 2019, both mixed events: the 2 × 2 × 400 m relay and the shuttle hurdles relay. The first event replaced the 4 × 800 m relay that featured at previous events.

2019 World Athletics Championships 2019 edition of the World Championships in Athletics

The 2019 IAAF World Athletics Championships, the seventeenth edition of the IAAF World Athletics Championships, are scheduled to be held between 27 September and 6 October 2019 in Doha, Qatar at the renovated multi-purpose Khalifa International Stadium. For the first time sponsors of national teams will be permitted to appear on the kit that the athletes compete in.

First held in 1987, it was held each year until 1990 and discontinued completely after 1995, as it was replaced by the African Southern Region Athletics Championships, due to the CAA changing its regional championship formatting.
