Taicang is a county-level city under the jurisdiction of Suzhou,Jiangsu province,China. The city located in the south of the Yangtze River estuary opposite Nantong,being bordered by Shanghai proper to the south,while the river also delineates much of its northeastern boundary along Chongming Island. Taicang as a place name is mentioned in a memorial to the throne of geographer Jia Dan during the Song dynasty,"Where lies to the east of Kunshan nowadays",he supposedly wrote,"is called Taicang,also known as Gangshen". [3]
Taicang is a natural port. Under the Yuan,the city reached its peak between 1271 and 1368. Under the Ming,Taicang's Liuhe Harbor was the departure point for Zheng He's treasure fleets. It was also during this period that the shoals in the Yangtze estuary which later became Chongming Island were placed under the supervision of Taicang Prefecture. [4]
It was the venue for the 2014 IAAF World Race Walking Cup.
The Taicang port is in the east of the city,and south of the Yangtze exit into the East China Sea. The center of the Taicang port is on 31°37′00" North,121°14′00" East. The port line stretches 24.3 miles (38.8 km),of which 15.6 miles can park 50 thousand ton vessels. Taicang is in a humid subtropical climate zone with distinctive seasons. The average year round temperature is 15.5 Celsius. Precipitation is around 1078.1 mm.

Taicang is known for having operations from companies established by Germans since 1985,when the first German businessperson went to Taicang. Accordingly,the city obtained the nickname "Little Swabia" with it having German-inspired businesses. The area does not have a significant German population as the German expatriates prefer Shanghai since it contains the German School of Shanghai. The city has the German Centre for Industry and Trade Taicang (Chinese :太仓德国中心). [7]
ABA Chemicals,a chemicals manufacturing company,is headquartered in Taicang. [8]
By 2021 the city had a labor shortage with workers demanding higher wages. [7]
Chongming District is the northernmost district of the provincial-level municipality of Shanghai. Chongming consists of three low-lying inhabited alluvial islands at the mouth of the Yangtze north of the Shanghai peninsula:Chongming,Changxing,and Hengsha. Following its massive expansion in the 20th century,Chongming is now the 2nd-largest island administered by the People's Republic of China and the 2nd-largest in Greater China,after Hainan. Chongming does not,however,administer all of the island:owing to its continual expansion from sediment deposited by the Yangtze,it has merged with formerly separate islands and now includes Jiangsu province's pene-exclave townships of Haiyong and Qilong. Chongming proper covers an area of 1,411 km2 (545 sq mi) and had a population of 637,921 at the time of the Census 2020.
Jiangyin is a county-level city on the southern bank of the Yangtze River,and is administered by Wuxi,Jiangsu province. Jiangyin is one of the most important transport hubs on the Yangtze River,it is also one of the most developed counties in China. Nantong is a vital river port bordering Yancheng to the north;Taizhou to the west;Suzhou,Wuxi and Shanghai to the south across the river;and the East China Sea to the east. Its population was 7,726,635 as of the 2020 census,3,766,534 of whom lived in the built-up area made up of three urban districts.
Qidong is a county-level city under the administration of the prefecture-level city of Nantong in southeastern Jiangsu province,China. It is located on the north side of the Yangtze River opposite Shanghai and forms a peninsula jutting out into the East China Sea. It has a population of 967,313 in 2020.
Zhangjiagang,formerly Shazhou County,is a county-level city under the administration of Suzhou,Jiangsu province,China and one of the many ports along the Yangtze river.
Huaibei is a prefecture-level city in northern Anhui Province,China. It borders Suzhou (Anhui) to the east,Bengbu to the south,Bozhou to the west,and the provinces of Henan to the northwest and Jiangsu to the northeast. Haimen is a district of Nantong,Jiangsu province,with a population of approximately 1 million. It is located at the opposite side of the Yangtze River to Shanghai and is directly north of Chongming Island except for a small portion that forms Haimen District's Haiyong Town. Haimen is the seat of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Haimen. Haimen is located in the poorer north Jiangsu region and,together with Qidong City,has long had one of the highest rates of liver cancer in China and in the world;over one in ten adults in the rural areas died from liver cancer c.1970,with mortality halving since then with improvements to drinking water and food.
Dongtai is a coastal county-level city under the administration of Yancheng,Jiangsu province,China. It has a population of roughly 1,170,000 estimated for 2007. Out of the total population,about 260,000 live in the Dongtai urban core,others are distributed in the 23 suburban towns and rural regions. With some Yellow Sea coast,it borders the prefecture-level cities of Nantong to the south and Taizhou to the west,and is the southernmost county-level division of Yancheng.

The geography of Shanghai is characterised by its location on the Yangtze River Delta on China's east coast and its proximity to the Pacific Ocean via the East China Sea. Dafeng District is a coastal district in Yancheng,Jiangsu province,China. Located on the Jiangsu North Plain with a coastline of 112 km (70 mi),Dafeng was historically one of the largest salt-making areas in China and now is famed for its well preserved eco-system and numerous national conservation parks. The district has the largest national nature reserve for a rare deer species,Père David's Deer or Milu (麋鹿) in Chinese. It borders the prefecture-level city of Taizhou to the southwest.

Guanyun County is under the administration of Lianyungang,Jiangsu province,China. It borders the prefecture-level city of Suqian to the southwest and the Yellow Sea to the east. Guanyun County has an area of 1,538 km2 (594 sq mi) and a population of about 1,026,000 as of 2020.
Tongzhou District,formerly known as Tongzhou City (1993-2009) or Nantong County (1912-1993),is one of three urban districts of Nantong,Jiangsu province,China. It was a county-level city under the administration of Nantong until July 2009,when it became a district of Nantong. As of 2010,Tongzhou had a population of 1,246,400.
