Stroud District is a district in the ceremonial county of Gloucestershire, South West England. The district covers many outlying towns and villages. The towns forming the district are Dursley, Minchinhampton, Nailsworth, Painswick, Stonehouse, Stroud and Wotton-under-Edge. The district is geographically located between the Tewkesbury district to the northwest and northeast, Gloucester district to the north, the Cotswold district to the north-northeast. east and southeast, The Forest of Dean district to the north-northwest, west, and southwest and the South Gloucestershire unitary authority to the southeast, south, and south-southwest.

The 2015 Gloucester City Council election took place on 7 May 2015 to elect members of Gloucester City Council in England. Eleven of the 36 seats on the council were up for election, being a nominal third of the council. This was the last year of Gloucester electing its council by thirds, with elections from 2016 onwards being whole council elections every four years instead. The 2015 election was held on the same day as other local elections. The Conservatives gained two seats, giving them control of the council, which had previously been under no overall control. Paul James, the Conservative leader, continued to serve as leader of the council, but with his party having a majority.

The 2011 Gloucester City Council election took place on 5 May 2011 to elect members of Gloucester City Council in England. There were 11 seats for election and the Conservative Party gained control of the council from no overall control. Paul James, who had been serving as leader of the council since 2007 running a Conservative minority administration, continued to serve as leader but with his party having a majority.

The 2010 Gloucester City Council election took place on 6 May 2010 to elect members of Gloucester City Council in England. Although two wards changed parties, one went from Labour to Conservative and the other went from Conservative to Labour, so there was no net change in the overall number of seats held by each party. The council remained under no overall control. After the election, Paul James continued to serve as leader of the council, leading a Conservative minority administration.

The 2008 Gloucester City Council election took place on 1 May 2008 to elect members of Gloucester City Council in England. Twelve of the 36 seats on the council were up for election, ten of which were the usual nominal third of the council.
