The 2008 Houston Dynamo season was the third season of the existence for the Houston franchise. The Houston Dynamo were the defending back-to-back MLS Cup Champions, and sought to become the first club in Major League Soccer history to win three straight MLS Cups. It was the team's third season with head coach Dominic Kinnear, majority owner Philip Anschultz, president Oliver Luck, and chief operating officer Chris Canetti.

Contents

In the MLS regular season, the Dynamo finished first in the Western Conference to qualify for the playoffs for the third consecutive season. In the MLS Cup Playoffs, Houston lost to the New York Red Bulls 4–1 on aggregate in the Conference Semifinals. They were eliminated by the Charleston Battery in the third round of the U.S. Open Cup. During the 2008 CONCACAF Champions' Cup, Houston defeated C.S.D. Municipal 3–1 on aggregate in the quarterfinals before falling in the semifinals 3–0 to Deportivo Saprissa. During the 2008 North American SuperLiga, the Dynamo reached the final, where they lost 6–5 on penalties to the New England Revolution. The Dynamo also played in the group stage of the 2008–09 CONCACAF Champions League during the season, finishing second in their group to advance.

Corey Alan Ashe is an American former professional soccer player. He played 10 seasons in Major League Soccer, mostly with the Houston Dynamo, but also with Orlando City SC and Columbus Crew SC. Originally a wide midfielder, Ashe moved to left back in 2011 and established himself as one of the best left backs in MLS, being named an MLS All-Star in 2011 and 2013. Ashe was considered one of the fastest players in MLS during his time in the league. While in Houston, he was part of the MLS Cup 2007 winning squad and helped the Dynamo reach two more finals in 2011 and 2012. His 266 career appearances for the Dynamo is the 3rd most in franchise history.

The 2007 Houston Dynamo season was the second season of existence for the Houston franchise. The Dynamo were the defending MLS Cup champions from the previous season and prevailed to win back-to-back MLS Cups as they defeated the New England Revolution for the second year in a row in the MLS Cup final. The Dynamo also competed in the CONCACAF Champions' Cup, U.S. Open Cup, and North American SuperLiga during the 2007 season.

The 2008 MLS SuperDraft took place on January 18, 2008 in Baltimore, Maryland. It was the ninth annual Major League Soccer SuperDraft. The first selection was made by the Kansas City Wizards, after acquiring the selection from the expansion San Jose Earthquakes. It was followed by the Supplemental Draft.

The 2009 MLS SuperDraft took place on January 15, 2009, in St. Louis, Missouri. It was the tenth annual Major League Soccer SuperDraft. The first selection was owned by the expansion Seattle Sounders FC. Unlike previous years, the SuperDraft was not followed by the Supplemental Draft due to roster changes for the 2009 season decreasing the number of developmental spaces.

The 2009 Houston Dynamo season was the fourth season of existence for the Houston franchise since joining Major League Soccer (MLS) prior to the 2006 season. It was the team's fourth season with head coach Dominic Kinnear, majority owner Philip Anschultz, president Oliver Luck, and chief operating officer Chris Canetti.

The 2010 Chivas USA season was the sixth season of the team's existence.

The 2010 Houston Dynamo season was the fifth season of the team's existence since joining Major League Soccer (MLS) prior to the 2006 season. It was the team's fifth season with head coach Dominic Kinnear, majority owner Philip Anschultz, and chief operating officer Chris Canetti. On June 10, team president Oliver Luck left the Dynamo to become athletic director for his alma mater, West Virginia University.

The 2010 MLS SuperDraft was the eleventh annual SuperDraft presented by Major League Soccer. It was held on January 14, 2010 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, during the 2010 NSCAA Convention. The 2010 SuperDraft consisted of four rounds with sixteen selections each, for a total of 64 players selected during the draft. The draft preceded the 2010 MLS season.

The 2008 Real Salt Lake Season was the fourth season of the team's existence. It was the first season that the team made it to the MLS Cup Playoffs, thanks to some last minute heroics by Yura Movsisyan. After defeating Chivas USA in the first round of the playoffs, Real Salt Lake lost to New York Red Bulls in the Western Conference finals. The 2008 season was also the last season that Real Salt Lake played at Rice-Eccles Stadium, as they moved to the soccer-specific Rio Tinto Stadium on October 9, 2008.

The 2011 Houston Dynamo season was the sixth season of the team's existence, breaking the record for the most seasons played for a Houston soccer team. The Dynamo had been tied with Houston Hurricanes, who competed in the USISL D3 Pro League from 1996 to 2000. It was the Dynamo's sixth season with head coach Dominic Kinnear and majority owner Philip Anschultz. It was Chris Canettis first season as team president, having worked as chief operating officer for the previous five.

The 2011 San Jose Earthquakes season was the club's 14th year of existence, as well as its 14th season in Major League Soccer and its fourth consecutive season in the top-flight of American soccer. This is the 29th season of a club bearing the "Earthquakes" name.

The 2008 San Jose Earthquakes season was the eleventh season of the team's existence, and the first in their return to the league after a two-year hiatus.

The 2013 season is the Houston Dynamo's 8th competitive season in Major League Soccer, 8th year of existence as a football club, and their second consecutive season playing at BBVA Compass Stadium. They also competed in the CONCACAF Champions League, participating in the knockout phase of the 2012–13 campaign being eliminated by Santos Laguna in the quarterfinal 3–1 on Aggregate. They will be opening the 2013–14 group stage in late July or early August 2013.
