The Mitsubishi J8M Shūsui was a Japanese World War II rocket-powered interceptor aircraft closely based on the German Messerschmitt Me 163 Komet. Built as a joint project for both the Navy and the Army Air Services, it was designated J8M (Navy) and Ki-200 (Army).

The Women's Long jump of the 2011 Asian Athletics Championships was held on 7 July 2011 in the Kobe Universiade Memorial Stadium of Kobe, Japan. In the women's long jump event, 14 athletes from the seven nations and one Chinese SAR participated. The gold medal was won by the Indian athlete Mayookha Johny with a best jump of 6.56 meters. Yuliya Tarasova of Uzbekistan, the current Asian leader of the event with a jump of 6.68 meters, failed to win a medal and finished fourth with a best jump of 6.37 meters. Another favorite, South Korean Jung Soon-Ok—with a personal best of 6.76 meters—also failed to finish on the podium. Her best jump of 6.12 meters was not even good enough for her to reach the last eight in the competition.

The 97th Japan Championships in Athletics were held at Ajinomoto Stadium in Chōfu. Organised by JAAF, the three-day competition took place from June 7–9 and served as the national championships in track and field for the Japan. The competition was for the qualifying trial for the Japan team at the 2013 World Championships.
Honami Maeda is a Japanese long-distance runner. She is the holder of the Japanese national record for 30 km (1:38:35), and the winner of the 2017 Hokkaido Marathon and the 2019 Marathon Grand Championship. She represented Japan at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
The China–Japan–Korea Friendship Athletic Meeting is an annual international outdoor track and field competition between the East Asian countries of China, Japan and South Korea. Jointly organised by the Chinese Athletic Association, Japan Association of Athletics Federations and Korea Association of Athletics Federations, it was first held in 2014 and host responsibilities rotate between the three nations.
Nao Okabe is a Japanese retired track and field sprinter who specialized in the 100 metres. She competed in the 4 × 100 meters relay at the 2011 World Championships without qualifying for the final. She also won a gold medal in the 4 × 100 metres relay at the 2011 Asian Championships, with teammates Momoko Takahashi, Chisato Fukushima and Saori Imai.
Miho Shingu is a Japanese track and field athlete who specialises in the 400 metres and 800 metres. She was selected for the 4 × 400 metres relay member at the 2009 World Championships in Berlin at the age of 17, but did not compete. She won a gold medal in the 4 × 400 metres relay at the 2011 Asian Championships in Kobe with teammates Sayaka Aoki, Chisato Tanaka and Satomi Kubokura. She was also the 2011 Japanese champion in the 400 metres and a two-time Japanese champion in the 4 × 400 metres relay.
The 104th Japan Championships in Athletics was held at Denka Big Swan Stadium in Niigata. Organised by JAAF, the three-day competition took place from 1–3 October and served as the national championships in track and field for the Japan. The competition originally intended to serve as the qualifying trial for Japan at the 2020 Summer Olympics, but both the national championships and the Olympics were postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic in Japan. The long-distance competitions were held separately from the main track and field competition, with 3000 metres steeplechase, 5000 metres and 10,000 metres all set to take place on 4 December at the Nagai Stadium.
