Vnukovo International Airport, formally Vnukovo Andrei Tupolev International Airport, is a dual-runway international airport located in Vnukovo District, 28 kilometres (17 mi) southwest of the centre of Moscow, Russia. It is one of the four major airports that serve Moscow, along with Moscow Domodedovo Airport, Sheremetyevo International Airport, and Zhukovsky International Airport. In 2019, the airport handled 24.01 million passengers, representing an increase of 12% compared to the previous year. It is the eleventh-busiest airport in Europe.
On the night of 24 August 2004, explosive devices were detonated on board two domestic passenger flights that had taken off from Domodedovo International Airport in Moscow, Russia, causing the destruction of both aircraft and the loss of all 90 people on board them.
Aleksandr Sergeyevich Makarov was the mayor of Tomsk from 1996 to 2011. He was born in Slavyansk-na-Kubani, Krasnodar Krai, before moving to Tomsk with his family. After graduating from the Tomsk Medical Institute, he worked as a surgeon in Krasnoyarsk Krai before returning to Tomsk to work in the local psychiatric hospital. He later entered the Tomsk State Pedagogical University and earned his teaching certification.
Vasily Georgievich Aleksanyan was a Russian lawyer and a former Executive Vice President of Yukos oil company. He headed the company’s legal department and represented Mikhail Khodorkovsky when the Kremlin accused the oil tycoon and his managers of money laundering and embezzlement in 2006. Aleksanyan was arrested and charged as an accomplice to tax evasion and money laundering. After refusing to allegedly provide false evidence against other Yukos executives, he served two years in prison while suffering from advanced cancer and AIDS. After a decision by European Court of Human Rights, he was released on a bond on 12 January 2009, dying from complications of AIDS on 2 October 2011.
The Lame Horse fire occurred on December 5, 2009, around 1 a.m. local time in the nightclub Khromaya Loshad at 9 Kuybyshev Street, Perm, Russia. The fire started when sparks from pyrotechnics ignited the low ceiling and its willow twig covering. The fire quickly spread to the walls and damaged the building's electrical wiring, causing the lights to fail.
Dagestan Airlines Flight 372 was a scheduled commercial flight between Moscow's Vnukovo Airport and Makhachkala, Russia. On 4 December 2010, the Tupolev Tu-154 operating the flight skidded off the runway following an emergency landing at Domodedovo Airport, 45 km south-east of Vnukovo. Two people on board were killed.
Vnukovo District is an administrative district (raion) of Western Administrative Okrug, and one of the 125 raions of Moscow, Russia. Most of the district is occupied by Vnukovo International Airport, a small adjacent residential area, and a separate residential micro-district. The area of the district is 16.912 square kilometers (6.530 sq mi). Population: 20,100.
Aeroflot Flight 15 was a passenger flight from Moscow-Domodedovo Airport to Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky Airport with a stopover at Yemelyanovo Airport that crashed on 29 February 1968 en route to Petropavlovsk. All but one aboard the aircraft were killed in the crash.

The Anti-Corruption Foundation was a Russian nonprofit organization based in Moscow established in 2011 by activist and politician Alexei Navalny. Its main goal is to investigate and to expose corruption cases among high-ranking Russian government officials, and it has accused the government of retaliating against it and its members several times for its investigations. Its distinguishing feature is that it is funded by private donations from Russian citizens. Among other activities, the foundation publishes movies on YouTube about corruption of Russian officials, such as Chaika and He Is Not Dimon to You. The organisation is currently in liquidation following being ordered by a Russian court to pay ₽29.2 million to a company for "lost profits and damage to reputation" following an investigation into mass food poisoning of schoolchildren in Moscow. At the same time, the Anti-Corruption Foundation brand has been preserved.

The Mikhailov Case refers to an espionage scandal surrounding the activities of the Center of Information Security of FSB, whose employees were implicated in high treason after participating in a number of high-profile criminal cases. An unprecedented fact was the accusation of the Russian CIS FSB officers arrested in Russia in cybercrime in the United States.
Saratov Airlines Flight 703 was a domestic passenger flight from Moscow Domodedovo Airport to Orsk Airport in Russia. On 11 February 2018, the aircraft serving the flight, an Antonov An-148-100B, crashed shortly after take-off, killing all 71 people on board — 65 passengers and six crew members.

The case of the Khachaturyan sisters is an ongoing high profile criminal case in Russia that elicited public outrage about domestic violence in the country. Sisters Krestina, Angelina and Maria Khachaturyan were arrested on 28 July 2018 and charged with premeditated murder of their father, Mikhail Khachaturian. When the crime was committed the sisters were 19, 18 and 17 years old. On 14 June 2019 the charges were upgraded to that of premeditated murder “committed by a group of persons or as a result of conspiracy", punishable by up to twenty years of imprisonment. The defense stated that sisters acted in self-defence, having no other choice, as they were subjected to constant violence and sexual abuse by their father for a long period of time prior to the alleged crime. There has been a large-scale public outcry over the case, with social activists defending the sisters. Public protests have been held in Moscow, Saint-Petersburg and other cities supporting the sisters, and calling for a change in legislation governing domestic violence and its prevention.
Alexey Andreevich Minyaylo is a Russian social entrepreneur and political activist. During the 2019 Moscow City Duma election he was a member of election team of Lyubov Sobol. Together with her, he went on a hunger strike in protest against non-admission to the election. On 2 August he was arrested on charges of participating in the riots on 27 July 2019.
Starting from July 2019 numerous approved and unapproved rallies in Moscow began, caused by the situation with the 2019 Moscow City Duma elections. Widespread public protests were triggered by numerous authorities' violations, claimed by the independent opposition candidates, during the registration procedure. Rallies on Sakharov Avenue on 20 July and 10 August 2019 became the largest political rallies in Russia since the 2011–2013 protests. The July 27 rally established a record on number of detainees: 1373 people were detained. The subsequent appeals of the MCEC's decisions to the CEC by the independent candidates didn't lead to any results.
The Insider is a Moscow-based independent online newspaper specializing in investigative journalism, fact-checking and political analytics. Founded in November 2013 by Roman Dobrokhotov, a member of the Solidarity liberal-democratic movement, journalist and political activist, who is the editor-in-chief of the newspaper. The newspaper is known for exposing fake news in Russian media.
