The World Athletics U20 Championships is a biennial world championships for the sport of athletics organised by the World Athletics, contested by athletes in the under-20 athletics age category (19 years old or younger on 31 December in the year of the competition.
Brimin Kipruto is a Kenyan middle distance runner who specialises in the 3000 metres steeplechase. He was born in Korkitony, Keiyo District. He holds a personal best of 7:53.64 minutes which is the second fastest time ever run, and the African Record. His personal best is only 0.01 of a second behind the world record of former county mate Saif Saaeed Shaheen, who switched national affiliation to Qatar after growing up as Stephen Cherono in the Keiyo District.
The 3000 metres steeplechase or 3000-meter steeplechase is the most common distance for the steeplechase in track and field. It is an obstacle race over the distance of the 3000 metres, which derives its name from the horse racing steeplechase.
Fionnuala McCormack is an Irish runner who has competed at a range of distance running events. She was the gold medallist at the 2011 and 2012 European Cross Country Championships. She has represented Ireland in the steeplechase at the 2008 Beijing Olympics and 2012 London Olympics, the 2007 World Championships in Athletics and 2011 World Championships in Athletics, and twice at the European Athletics Championships. In December 2012, Britton became the first woman to successfully defend the European Cross Country Championship.
Ancuța Bobocel is a Romanian middle-distance runner who specializes in the 3000 metres steeplechase. She represented Romania at the 2008, 2012 and 2016 Summer Olympics and is a three-time participant at the World Championships in Athletics. In 2009, she won the European U23 and Jeux de la Francophonie steeplechase titles, as well as a silver at the Summer Universiade.
Sandra Elisabet Eriksson is a Finnish middle distance runner, who specializes mainly in the 3000 metres steeplechase. Her personal best is 9:24.70, achieved in July 2014 in Glasgow. This is the current national record.
Habiba Ghribi is a Tunisian middle- and long-distance runner who specialises in the 3000 metres steeplechase. She won the gold medal at the 2012 Summer Olympics, giving her country its first Olympic medal by a woman. She is also the Tunisian record holder in the event, having run 9:05.36 at the Memorial van Damme in Brussels in September 2015.
The women's 3000 metres steeplechase at the 2012 World Junior Championships in Athletics was held at the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys on 10 and 12 July.
Conseslus Kipruto is a Kenyan middle distance runner who competes in the 3000 metre steeplechase. He won the gold medal at the 2016 Summer Olympics, 2017 and 2019 World Championships. Kipruto also won the World Youth and in 2012 the World Junior titles in the steeplechase. He also ranks second on the all-time junior lists with 8:01.16. He set his personal best of 8:00.12 minutes at the Birmingham Diamond League event in 2016.
Ruth Jebet is a Kenyan-born long-distance runner and steeplechase specialist who competes internationally for Bahrain. She was the world record holder and is currently the reigning Olympic gold medalist in the 3000 metres steeplechase, both achieved before turning 20.
Mitko Tsenov is a Bulgarian middle-distance runner who specializes in various events. He represented Bulgaria at the 2013 World Championships in Athletics. As of 2014, Tsenov is the fastest Bulgarian to have ever run the 3000 metres steeplechase, breaking Mikhail Zhelev's national record on June 12, 2014.
Jairus Kipchoge Birech is a Kenyan steeplechase runner. He holds a personal best time of 7:58.41 minutes for the 3000 metres steeplechase, which ranks him among the top ten of all-time. He was the gold medallist at the 2014 African Championships in Athletics and silver medallist at the 2014 Commonwealth Games.

Purity Cherotich Kirui is a Kenyan long-distance runner who specialises in the 3000 metres steeplechase. She holds a personal best of 9:19.42 minutes for the event. She was the gold medallist at the 2014 Commonwealth Games and the 2010 World Junior Championships in Athletics.
Virginia Nyambura Nganga is a Kenyan runner who specialises in the steeplechase. She was the gold medallist in the steeplechase at the 2010 Summer Youth Olympics and won her first senior medal at the 2015 IAAF World Relays, where she was a member of the Kenyan team which broke the African record for the distance medley relay. Her personal best for the 3000 metres steeplechase is 9:13.85 minutes, set in 2015.
Rosefline Chepngetich is a Kenyan steeplechase runner. She holds a personal best of 9:35.75 minutes for the 3000 metres steeplechase and is ranked third on the all-time youth lists for the 2000 m steeplechase distance.
Hailemariyam Amare is an Ethiopian runner specialising in the 3000 metres steeplechase. Hailemariyam placed 5th in the 2014 World Junior Championships. He represented his country at the 2015 World Championships in Beijing finishing twelfth in the final. He won a bronze medal at the 2015 African Games. He participated at the 2016 Summer Olympics but failed to reach the final. He placed 5th place in the 2016 World Challenge Beijing with a personal best time of 8:21.20.
Norah Jeruto Tanui is a Kenyan steeplechase runner. She was the champion at the African Championships in Athletics in 2016. Currently she is an athlete of Altay Athletics club in Kazakhstan.
The women's 3000 metres steeplechase at the 2018 IAAF World U20 Championships was held at Ratina Stadium on 10 and 13 July.
