The Girls' 2000 metres steeplechase at the 2017 World Youth Championships in Athletics was held on 14 July.
Mercy Chepkirui, the world leader, held a large lead on the final lap, but she fell on the last water jump which gave her compatriot Caren Chebet a chance to pass and win the gold medal. [1]

Paul Kipsiele Koech is a Kenyan runner who specializes in the 3000 metres steeplechase. He won the 2004 Olympic bronze medal in this event. His personal best of 7:54.31 minutes is the third fastest of all time.
Bouabdallah "Bob" Tahri is a retired middle-distance and long-distance French runner, who was born in Metz. He competed mainly in the 3000 m steeplechase distance. He also competes in the 2000 m steeplechase, 1500 m, mile, 3000 m, 5000 m, 10000 m and cross-country running. He has won several medals at major international championships such as the World Championships, European Championships and the European Indoor Championships. Moreover, he has won medals in the European Cup, European Team Championships, IAAF World Cup, IAAF Continental Cup and the IAAF World Athletics Final.

It is an obstacle race over the distance of 2000 metres, and derives its name from the horse racing steeplechase.
The South American U18 Championships in Athletics is a biennial athletics event organized by "Confederación Sudamericana de Atletismo" (CONSUDATLE), the South American area association of the International Amateur Athletic Federation (IAAF). Starting in 1973, the competition was open for athletes under-17 in the early years. Since 2000 the international age group definition has applied. Up until the 2016 edition the competition was known as the South American Youth Championships in Athletics. The tournament is open for athletes from CONSUDATLE member federations. Athletes from IAAF members of other geographical areas may be invited. However, they are not considered in the classification.
Gesa Felicitas Krause is a German athlete who specialises in the 3000 m steeplechase. She won bronze medals in steeplechase at both the 2015 and 2019 World Championships, and represented Germany at the 2012 and 2016 Olympics. Her personal best for the 3000 m steeplechase is 9:03.30, which is also a national record. In 2019 Krause set a world best for the 2000 m steeplechase in 5:52.80.
Conseslus Kipruto is a Kenyan middle-distance runner who specializes in the 3000 metres steeplechase. He was the 2016 Rio Olympic champion in the event. At the World Athletics Championships, Kipruto won gold medals in 2017 and 2019, silver medals in 2013 and 2015, and a bronze in 2022. In 2018, he captured gold medals at the African Championships and Commonwealth Games. He is a four-time Diamond League winner.
Rosefline Chepngetich is a Kenyan steeplechase runner. She holds a personal best of 9:35.75 minutes for the 3000 metres steeplechase and is ranked third on the all-time youth lists for the 2000 m steeplechase distance.
Norah Jeruto Tanui is a Kazakhstani long-distance runner specialising in the steeplechase. She won the gold medal in the 3000 metres steeplechase at the 2022 World Championships, becoming the first athlete representing Kazakhstan to win a title at the World Athletics Championships and setting a championship record in the process. Jeruto took gold in the event at the 2016 African Championships in Athletics.
Chris Winter is a Canadian track and field athlete competing in the middle-distance events, predominantly the 3,000m steeplechase. Winter attended Handsworth Secondary graduating in the spring of 2004 before moving to Eugene to compete for the University of Oregon. Winter competed for the Ducks from 2004 to 2009 as a key member to their middle distance team in both cross country and track. After placing 6th at the 2008 NCAA West Regional, Winter advanced for his first time to the NCAA division one Championships where he placed 12th against the collegiate bests. In his senior season, Winter returned to the NCAA Championships to improve on his previous performance with a 9th-place finish in a time of 8:46.06, just one position back from scoring for the Ducks.
The 2017 IAAF World U18 Championships was the tenth and last edition of the biennial international athletics competition for youth (under-18) athletes. The five-day competition took place between 12 and 16 July at the Moi International Sports Centre in Nairobi, Kenya. Eligible athletes were aged 16 or 17 on 31 December 2017.

Hirut Meshesha is an Ethiopian middle-distance runner. She won the bronze medal in the women's 1500 metres at the 2022 World Indoor Championships in Belgrade. Meshesha took gold for the 800 metres at the 2019 African Games.
Georgia Winkcup is an Australian athlete. She represented Australia in the women’s 3000m steeplechase at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo. Winkcup ran 13th in her Women's 3000m steeplechase heat but failed to qualify for the final.
Retshidisitswe Mlenga is a South African track and field sprinter who competes in the 100 metres and 200 metres. He holds a personal best of 10.37 seconds for the 100 m and 20.88 seconds for the 200 m. He was the gold medallist in the 200 m at the IAAF World U18 Championships in 2017.
