The 2018 Indonesia President's Cup (Indonesian : Piala Presiden 2018) was the third edition of Indonesia President's Cup, held by the Football Association of Indonesia (PSSI) as a pre-season tournament for the 2018 Liga 1. [1] The tournament started on 16 January and ended on 17 February 2018. [2]

Contents

The broadcasting rights were granted to Elang Mahkota Teknologi group; matches were aired by their channels: Indosiar and O-Channel. [3]

The 2018 Indonesia President's Cup Final was played at the Gelora Bung Karno Stadium in Jakarta, [4] with Persija defeating Bali United by 3–0 to win their first title. [5] [6] [7] Arema were the title holders, but they were eliminated by Sriwijaya in the quarter-finals. [8]

Teams

Initially, the tournament was planned to be competed by 20 teams: 18 teams from 2018 Liga 1 and 2 best placed teams from 2017 Liga 2. [9] Then, Persipura Jayapura decided not to participate in this year's tournament. Kalteng Putra was confirmed to replace them. [10]

Venues

Seven venues in seven cities were selected for the tournament. [12] [13] [14] On 21 January 2018, the venue of Group E officially moved from Gajayana Stadium to Kanjuruhan Stadium after two matches because the pitch of Gajayana was heavily damaged by bad weather and bad drainage. [15]

Group stage

The Organising Committee (OC) announced the group draw on 9 January 2018. The group draw was determined by the host, the team's ranking in the 2017 Liga 1 competition, geographical factors, and commercial interests. [18] [19]

Knockout stage

Extra time would not be played in the quarter-finals. If a match ended with a draw, it would go straight to a penalty shoot-out to determine the winner. The away goals rule, extra time and penalty shoot-out would be used in the semi-finals, if necessary. The third place match would also go straight to a penalty shoot-out if tied after normal playing time. Extra time and penalty shoot-out would also be used in the final, if necessary. [20]

2017 Indonesia President's Cup was the second edition of the Indonesia President's Cup football championship, which was held by the Football Association of Indonesia (PSSI). The 2023 FIFA U-17 World Cup was the 19th edition of the FIFA U-17 World Cup, the biennial international men's youth football tournament contested by the under-17 national teams of the member associations of FIFA. It was held in Indonesia from 10 November to 2 December 2023. This was the first time that Indonesia hosted a FIFA tournament, the first time that the FIFA U-17 World Cup was held in Southeast Asia and the third Asian country to host U-17 World Cup after United Arab Emirates in 2013 and India in 2017. It was the third time a FIFA tournament was held in the region since the 1997 FIFA World Youth Championship in Malaysia and 2012 FIFA Futsal World Cup in Thailand.

The 2021 Menpora Cup was a pre-season tournament held by the PSSI ahead of the 2021 Liga 1. The tournament started on 21 March and finished with a two-legged final on 22 and 25 April 2021. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, all matches were played behind closed doors. The 2021 edition was the second edition of Menpora Cup, with the first edition being held in 2013 which was won by Arema who defeated Australian side Central Coast Mariners by 2–1 in the final.

The 2022 Indonesia President's Cup was the fifth edition of Indonesia President's Cup, held by the Football Association of Indonesia (PSSI) as a pre-season tournament for the 2022–23 Liga 1. The tournament started on 11 June and finished on 17 July 2022.

The 2024 Piala Presiden was the 6th edition of Piala Presiden, held by the Football Association of Indonesia (PSSI) as a pre-season tournament for the 2024–25 Liga 1. This tournament was also a trial for several new regulations that were planned to be implemented in the Liga 1, one of which was the application of Video Assistant Referee (VAR).
