The 2017 Norwegian Football Cup was the 112th season of the Norwegian annual knock-out football tournament. It began with qualification matches in March and April 2017. The first round was played on 26 April 2017 and the tournament concluded with the final on 3 December 2017.
The 2017 season is Sarpsborg 08's 6th season in Tippeligaen, following their return to the top level in 2012. It is also their third season with Geir Bakke as the club's manager.

The 2019 season was Tromsø's fifth season in the Tippeligaen following their relegation at the end of the 2013 and their 32nd season in the top flight of Norwegian football. Tromsø finished the season in 15th position, earning relegation back to the 1. divisjon, whilst also reaching the Third Round of the Norwegian Cup where they were knocked out by Kongsvinger.
The 2018 season was Ranheim Fotball's first season in the Eliteserien following their promotion. They finished the season in 7th position and reached the Fourth Round of the Norwegian Cup.
The 2018 season was Lillestrøm's 43rd consecutive, and final, year in Eliteserien. Lillestrøm finished the season in 14th position, entering the Relegation play-offs where they were defeated on away goals by IK Start after the two-legged affair ended 5-5. In the Norwegian Cup, Lillestrøm reached the Third Round before defeat to Strømmen.
The 2020 season was Haugesund's 27th competitive season in the clubs history. During this season they competed in the Eliteserien.

Bodø/Glimt entered the campaign as league champions, winning their first ever Norwegian title in 2020. The start of the season was postponed from 5 April to 8 May due to the COVID-19 pandemic, where Glimt first played their local rivals Tromsø on 9 May 2021.
